Have to admit as a new member this is annoying me to the point of not bothering

If they cant manage what is a simple forum plugin which actually offers the options that everyone has already suggested they just need to switch on! (I build sites as a hobby and run a few too) how can I trust the security of my details :/

It is not that difficult to put in filters or ask someone to moderate the site. There is so much SPAM that it is putting people off wading through the detritus to find the gems. Agggggghhhhhh a forum scream!

May I echo Lovesprints1's sentiments (and forum scream) ... It would be very welcome if AW maintained the same level of vigilance, in the winter season, that they showed during the World Champs., where my casual observation noted a very healthy number of genuine posters.

We care a lot about our website and our forum and appreciate people's suggestions for user moderation, however so far these have come from some users suggesting other users for the role - if any individuals are keen themselves to take on a role like this, please do get in touch. We have our web developer looking into various options to improve things as we speak, so it may be that we can control the spam levels to an acceptable level without further moderation, but if user moderation does become an option, perhaps we can have further conversations with people who might be interested.

Thank you for continuing to visit our forum when the user experience has not been to the level you would expect. We really do hope that we can return it to a platform which you all enjoy using again.

AW for gods sake please stop nonsense about how your trying to sort it out; no such thing is evident from the regulars comments. Be honest... either you do not know what you are about or you do not care much. That PR stuff in the last sentence is a disgrace.

It appears to have been sorted for now?

Another option is to go in and add posts to genuine threads to 'bump' them but it shouldn't come to that.

...and at the very least the spam, and a need for a thread to address the issue, keeps me returning to the forum in what is now the 'quiet' season...

I hope one of AW's New Year resolutions is to tackle this spam issue. Ursus was told back in August that 'web developers were looking into it' (see quote below) Well, four months on the problem persists and I suggest you hire new developers...

Quick as a flash nothing’s happened and It’s worse than ever. Come on AW, I’m sure it wouldn’t take too much to sort this out. Other forums I contribute to just don’t have this kind of problem.

AW its time you gave some of the old members who are loyal and trust worthy some power to delete posts??

I mean its not even hard to develop processes to remove this stuff from happening!!
this forum doesn't even need developers its a prepacked product with the functionality already available, just switch it on!!!

              spoke to soon

              AW sack your web team!!!
v.bulletin boards have a very simple dashboard, please go into it and switch that bit that turns off the ability for anyone to post a damn URL in the title, that would be a starter.
Then, enable the bit that states a new member cant post until they have made "x" amount of posts in existing threads.

              That would cut most.

Heck give me a log in and ill sort it for you

480+ spam threads this morning. First athletics message on page 49.
Whatever you are doing (?) Athletics Weekly it is not working.

May I echo Laps message ... I did write this morning - i think there were 19 pages of spam at the time , and since then another 5 have been added. I know there are more important things to think about right now but this forum is withering at the best of times, and one recent email of mine (maybe another now) has been withheld as I used a legitimate athletics term, but is on some black list ...

Both would seem like very sensible and easy things to do!

At the moment the forum is great if you need a black magic specialist (who doesn't??!) but not so great for fans of athletics.

They've clearly not done anything about it at all. I've messaged a few times offering to help remove and control - I had a reply saying they would email the next day - of course that didn't happen. This forum might as well not exist at all in this format and perhaps that is AW's strategy?

If there were only half a dozen spam posts it wouldn't be too difficult for someone to just go into existing legitimate threads and 'bump' them with a short post. However, there are so many that it would take a long time to do.

It would be helpful if there was a policy that only allowed people who'd contributed a certain amount of posts to start new threads.

Like I said the forum is a vBulletin plugin, very easy to use. So no offence admins.... buck your ideas up! It honestly stops me from coming

AW - in the words of Pink Floyd - IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE! - I found this topic on page 23 (twenty three) as the spammers of the world have united to inundate this humble forum and ply their wretched trade here (thought what they hope to achieve only knows)... but unless AW gets its act together this forum will DIE and not only because of the lack of athletics activity ...

                            cheers Spammers and AW

ps... cant you let someone like Stew coach (a respected, proper participant in the sport we love, btw hope Yasmin is well...) loose on this site and apply his recommendations...
