It's another huge blow to the CGF, even with their relaxed criteria of just swimming as athletics as the central sports with everything else optional they are still struggling to find willing hosts. MR_ME could be on to something, a commonwealth recreation of the 2012 Olympics would be a good way to bow out, though it might involve delaying the 2026 Euros in Birmingham, that would be a wash-out with 12 days of sport in London in the same summer

My serious question is, a lot of the home nations funding from UK Sport, is based upon the commonwealth games, this could result in some fairly big shake ups, in EA alone there are a fair few whom are employed full time (some fairly some who should have been sacked years ago!) But this would be an issue to a lot of the 2nd level of athletes along with things such as the Junior talent pathways

So I guess if UK Sport were to continue with the funding it would be based upon other competition levels and events

I think we could end up with England Athletics being absorbed by UKA. I think the Scottish government might still want to fund its own body, I don't know about Wales, and NI would be dead in the water given that most of its athletes end up competing for Ireland.

The solution is to structure the CGs like the European Sports Championships but with different events in different countries over a 2 week period with TV coverage. For example, athletics in Jamaica, swimming in Australia and cycling in England. That way you would spread the financial load. You would lose the 'big games' atmosphere but such an approach would be more likely to ensure the long term survival of the CGs.

I think this is the way to go. You could perhaps convince Kenya to host the athletics, whilst not expecting them to go and build swanky new pool, velodrome, numerous indoor facilities. A few sports could be hosted in London quite easily. You could maybe convince India to host some of *their* favourite sports like Archery, Shooting, Wrestling. Cricket in the caribbean? Yes please.

Still no news on a replacement venue so it looks as if it's dead in the water.

There was a story in the press last week about delaying the event by one year to allow another city more time to come forward and get the venues ready, they’re still looking at Australia

But that pushes it to the same year as the WCs again, which was not ideal.

Let's have the World Cross in N Italy, hopefully in the snow, to demonstrate cross country should be part of winter Olympics.
