Vanninen has gone under the radar this weekend, another PB in the long jump and she’s a good javelin thrower, 4th at the moment, could possibly make the podium. Looks like 7000+ is on for Hall

I was literally just running the calculations on Vanninen! 49m and 2:20 would get her just over the qualifying standard and would be a big overall PB.
Good improvement from KJT in the final round, 6.32m SB (+0.5) and with that, retakes 2nd places from Vanninen. There is more there for KJT. Some more lj comps would be my prediction for her in the next few weeks to tighten up on the technique
Maybe. But perhaps this is more like her new norm?
Last year I reckon she did something like 8 LJs mixed between multis and individual events. Best of 6.41w. Since Doha her best anywhere is 6.52.
We know about the injuries and you’d hope she can add a bit, but the days of 6.60 or 6.70 in a hep feel like they may be in the rear view mirror.
RunUnlimited said ‘there’s more there’, which seems not unreasonable given her second round foul looked further - they didn’t say ‘there’s 40cm more and 6.70 there!’
I don’t think anyone is expecting that KJT pre-Achilles long jumping is coming back. She’s been frank about that herself.
Based on Kat’s reaction, plus the fact she’s coached by a jumps specialist and training alongside a 7m jumper, I suspect we’ll see 6.50-6.60m in Budapest. I suspect she thinks 6.70m is still there, which is important to keep the fuel going
Yes, one can hope that the Jaz Sawyers factor is infectious... plus a well timed 'kiai'* in the Shot and Javelin might add a cm or two... [*for those not familiar with this term from martial arts, think the gutteral yell of a Sophie Mckinna]
Hall needs, unless I’m getting my numbers wrong, a low 2:02 to hit 7000 exactly. 7000 is hard!
Kat’s throws are definitely (slowly) improving. That was I believe her second best javelin ever, and the technique on it was still a tiny bit suspect….but it’s solid and repeatable enough now that I don’t worry she’ll throw 11.5 and 36 in a major competition any more.
Wonder if she’ll go for it in the 800 to beat Sulek for pride’s sake. Paris qualification is done, she can jog if she wants to save herself.
Surprised Hall couldn’t pull out a bit more there. Kats technique looking much more robust (just wish she could squeeze a few meters more because 44 still gives a lot of points away if Vetter or Thiam throw to their potential) on the upside if the race is for bronze in Budapest then Sulek’s technique leaves a lot to be desired (much as I like the ever cheerful Adi) and won’t stand up under pressure! Good to see KJT improve with a 3rd round throw as well. Feel she has really mentally progressed with the jav which is great to see.
I don’t know if she’ll ever be over 45m consistently, but looking at her there I do think there’s a big throw in her.
I think her mental performance overall is what I think in most impressed with this weekend. She’s been competitively solid and hasn’t reverted to bad habits under pressure. Clutch third jumps at 1.86 and 1.89 in the HJ, clutch third long jump after fouling the second, clutch third javelin.
Having read the KJT article in the Guardian I’d say she’ll run a decent/competitive 800m to prove to herself she’s laid 2022 to rest. Not sure Hall can run 2.02 to crack 7000 but she’s a prodigious talent so she will probably prove me wrong!!!
That strapping on her leg hasn't been ideal, but underlines her resilience. Aston Moore has got her to Gotzis well conditioned, robust physically and mentally. She looks like she can go sub 2.10 comfortably.
Slightly disappointing LJ but solid javelin for Kat. On the whole promising for Budapest.
Hall is clearly a superstar, javelin is the only slight chink in her armour as far as I can see, and that’s not bad. If she doesn’t get 7000 here she probably will at Budapest.
