I though I would do a thread for this one day event as it's got 141 brits entered and it's a full-on athletics jamboree that runs from 9.30 am in the morning until past midnight for a continous 13 hours or so of live athletics. Last year produced some really quick times and I'm hoping for the same this time round. I will try and preview some of the more interesting events scheduled as we get closer to the day, first up the mens 400M.

Did you sit there and count them, or was there something that told you how many from each country?
Last year this IFAM Oordegem meeting was live streamed so hopefully again this year. There were a number of the Belgian international meetings that were live streamed for the first time last year. -
400M men - Ben Higgins (SB & PB 46.15), Rio Mitchum (SB & PB 46.13), Dan Putnam (SB 46.61), Joe Brier (SB 46.88 i). These four are entered into the main program. In the pre-program Cameron Chalmers (no SB so 46.87 from last year) and Toby Harries (no SB so his last 400M is 46.85 from 2021). I think if you do well in the pre program you can compete later in the main program though that could be a bit of a poisened chalice having to run a second time the same day against fresher athletes. Also down to compete and on the comeback trail is U20 Charlie Carvell. His season opener was 48.59 but it would be nice to see Charlie progress back towards his 46.67 PB of 2021 as the season unfolds..Comment

400M Women - the main british contenders are Natasha Harrison (SB 53.50), Ella Blakeley (SB 54.80), Carys MaCauley (SB & PB 52.68), Hannah Kelly (SB 53.73), Louise Evans (SB 53.98), Seren Bundy-Davies (SB 52.76), Tess McHugh (SB 54.06). Hannah Brier is entered but according to PO10 has never ran a 400 previously.Comment

Nemits, does already have the EU20 qualifying standard from the indoor season, as according to UKAs document for EU20 q performances for this year, any indoor times achieved in events from the 400m and up will count. So it should be interesting how she goes tomorrow. Her 54.06 at Ellsmere Port suggests that her form has carried over into the outdoor season.

400M Hurdles Women - Almost a de-facto British champs with 8 of the top 9 competing. Two in Emily Newnham (57.64) and Orla Brennan (58.62) have already set PBs this year. The other six brits competing including SB in brackets are Jessie Knight (55.87) 2nd ranked of entrants, Jess Turner (56.49), Hayley MacLean (56.92), Zoe Pollock (57.32), Jessica Tappin (57.77) & Nicole Kendall (57.93). Top ranked in the event is Lina Kloster from Norway with a PB of 53.91. It would have been Femke Bol but she has scratched.Comment

400M Hurdles Men - 5 of the top 6 brits from last year are competing with this years current early season leader also in attendance. Alastair Chalmers is top ranked in the entries list with his PB of 48.88 which he set in this event last year. That gained him the qualifying standard for the worlds where he made it through to the semis. He also earned Guernsey their first ever track medal in T&F at the Commonwealth games getting a bronze. Seamus Debyshire also got his PB of 49.44 here last year and had his best season yet going sub 50 a further 5 times & culminating in a 4th place in the European champs semis. Those that have set new pbs who are attending are Tyri Donovan (50.59), George Seery (50.85), Hayden Christian (52.94) & Daniel Rees (52.85). The others with seasons bests are Chris McAlister (51.30), Joshua Faulds (52.07), Jack Lawrie (51.15), Max Schlopp (53.51), Benjamin Schofield (54.64), William Ritchie-Moulin (52.95), Andrew Ajube (54.90) & Pyers Lockwood (53.88)Comment

100M Hurdles Women - The main draw of this event from a british perspective seems to be the 400m and 400mH events but their are plenty more brits competing in the other events some of which will be hoping to gain the standard required later in the year to compete in age group champs. Jenna Blundell who is a last year u23 will have an eye on getting the standard for the european u23 champs. I cannot find the standard for her but in 2021 she would need to run 13.25. Her current PB of 13.20 would be good enough but she has only ran 13.57 thus far. Another U23 who could have an interest in chasing the standard is Mallory Clulley who has a PB of 13.57 but has a SB of 13.87. Kira Holt is an U20 and is also attending and she has made great strides this year already lowering her PB from 14.41 to 13.66 which is under the 13.70 she requires. Mia McIntosh unfortunately has scratched from the entry list. There are two sub 13 performers in the form of Jade Barber (USA) with a PB of 12.72 and Anna Zagre (Belgium) with a PB of 12.95Comment

Mia McIntosh is entered in tomorrow's Grifone Meeting in Grosseto. Might see her there. -
On those looking for the 100m hurdles standard for the U23s, the time needed is 13.25 - a time that only 6 UK U23s have managed since 2010 (Cindy Sember, Lucy Hatton, Alicia Barrett, Jenna Blundell herself, Holly Mills and Yasmin Miller).

Alex Botterill wins the 800M "A" race in 1:47:59. Seems the Steve Cram has some involvement with Alex now according to the commentary team. Strange race with the brazilian a 1:45 man looking home and clear and then losing his legs completely. I have moved this. To give this post some relevancy I'll mention Joe Brier who posted a SB of 45.99 today.Last edited by Loop-guru; 27-05-23, 19:24.Comment

45.99 for Joseph Brier, wonder if he can crack on from the high-45s. He has managed a PB every season he's run the distance apart from in 2017.Comment
