4282 first day 3588 day two.
Superb day one, with the best of the conditions. Solid second day, with 8000 on the cards in Jerusalem. It's only the LJ that bizarrely stands out for the lack of progress, but he'll be a 7.50 jumper in 24. UK seniors will have their hands full with him next year

Considering what we saw of Jerusalem at last year's European U18's, then it's fairly safe to assume that the weather will be nothing less that virtually cloudless, sunny skies and temps in the high 20's/low 30's Centigrade. I think he might aim to break 8000 points at the European U20s in August as you mention. The only reason he didn't do it today was a slightly below par discus, hurdles and javelin.

U17 Teddy Wilson improved his PB slightly to 10.51 yesterday with another run of 10.52 into a very slight head wind. Fellow u17 Ebuka Nwokeji ran 10.56, also a pb. This was at the BFT meetin* a5 Le Valley where Renee Regis ran her 11.39.Comment

In the same race that saw Imani Lansiquot rise up to joint 4th on the UK all time list for 100m over at the Newham & Essex Beagles Track Open which I've just posted about in the 2023 UK Outdoor Results thread, also saw U23 Aleeya Sibbons finish 2nd in 11.33 (+1.3), smashing her previous PB by 0.17 seconds and gaining a Euro U23 qualifying standard in the process! That time from Sibbons moves up to =20th on the UK U23 all time list for 100m.
Also in the race was last year's EU18 100m champ Nia Wedderburn-Goodison, who made her first competitive appearance indoors or out, since injuring herself at the UK Indoor Championships in February. The 18 year old finished in 3rd with a time of 11.49, becoming the 3rd British U20 to go under the European U20 Q time (11.65) at the first time of asking, and recording her 3rd fastest wind legal clocking to boot.
Cassie Ann Pemberton was in 4th place in 11.55, the U23 a little down on her recent 11.43 PB from last month, but still recording the 3rd fastest 100m time of her career.👍 1Comment

In the 2nd final, U20 Jennifer Eduwu, was denied a substantial PB due to the +2.5m/s wind that assisted her to the 11.63 time she registered, which would have been under the EU20 Q standard.
The 3rd 100m final Deborah Lago enter new territory. In her last year as an U20, Lago had only broken 12 seconds twice before today (and with a third, hand-timed 11.8 run to her name in 2022) over 100m. In today's race however she would run a wind legal 11.85 (+1.7).
In a blanket finish, 2nd place was taken by fellow U20 Gwendoline Datey, who also set new PB figures of 11.86 for her first time under 11.9.
(Also in the race was 2017 European U20 100m champion Gina Akpa-Moses from Ireland, who is a member of Birchfield Harriers and trains in the UK. She was 3rd in 11.88)Last edited by RunUnlimited; 29-05-23, 15:15.Comment

More from the Newham meeting... In the first of the women's 200m races, U23 Cassie Ann Pemberton, fresh off running 11.45 in the earlier 100m race, clocked 23.23 and was only denied a massive PB and EU23 Q standard due to the +3.3m/s following wind.
Denied a big SB was U20 Success Eduan, who also competed in the earlier 100m races as she came 2nd in 23.38.
The 2nd women's 200m race saw U23 Aleeya Sibbons, robbed of her 2nd big PB of the day after her 11.33 in the 100m earlier in the afternoon by just 0.01m/s as her 23.50 (+2.1) was ruled out for record keeping purposes. Unlucky!
In race 3, U20 Renee Regis, European U18 bronze medallist over 100m last year, and who recently set a massive 100m PB of 11.39 just a couple of days ago, was more fortunate than the previous two races with the wind. The first year U20 was trailing U23 Rachel Bennett on the bend, but down the finishing straight powered past her and crossed the line in 23.59 (+0.7), taking nearly 4/10ths off her previous outright personal best set indoors (23.93) and nearly 2 whole seconds out of her outdoor PB set in 2019 (25.51) - the last time she raced 200m outdoors!
Bennett for her part, also set a PB with a time of 23.75.
Race 4 saw Shiloh Wright-Taipow, another U20, improve her 200m PB for the 3rd time this year, and this was the biggest drop in time yet as the 18 year old loped 0.37 off the 24.27 she set earlier this month and went under 24 seconds for the very first time, crossing the line in 23.90 (+1.3).Last edited by RunUnlimited; 29-05-23, 17:25.Comment

Over at the BLCF Hurdles Festival in Chelmsford, strong headwinds of up to -5.5m/s(!) have been hampering the hurdlers competing.
The U20 women's 100m hurdles heats saw Jessica Duncton, fresh from running a 13.85 PB at the Loughborough International last week, make do with victory in 14.14, battling a -3.1m/s headwind. Kira Holt, who's 13.66 PB is under the EU20 qualifying standard but hasn't been recognized as official on either World Athletics or European Athletics, was 2nd in 14.25.
In the U18 men's 110m hurdles heats, Noah Hanson, who ran 13.51 into a -1.5 headwind also at Loughborough - a time well under the Commonwealth Youth Game 13.85 Q standard in just his 8th ever race over the 0.91cm barriers - beat fellow U20/U18 hurdler Charlie Staddon, 14.05 to 14.39, into a -2.4 wind.
The U20 men's 110m hurdles heats were dominated by UK U20 leader this year Daniel Goriola, who won in 13.85, despite the stiff -2.5m/s headwind.
The U18 110m hurdles final were won by Noah Hanson, who overcame the -2.8 headwind to run his 2nd fastest ever time over the U18 barriers of 13.64, to win from Charlie Staddon who set a 13.97 PB for 2nd place. (Staddon ran 13.93 in the U of Birmingham meeting earlier in the month, but like Holt's 13.66 from the same competition, doesn't appear to have been recognized as an official time)
Trey Corlis, an U17 running in the race and going over the 0.91cm hurdles for the first time, ran a respectable 14.35.Last edited by RunUnlimited; 29-05-23, 18:06.Comment

The men's 200m races in Newham saw Tyler Panton, in his 1st year as an U23, knock 0.26 off his PB with a wind legal 21.17 (+0.8) to win the race.Comment

Massive season's best from EU18 400m hurdles bronze medallist Stephanie Okoro, who came 2nd in the senior and U23 400m hurdles final at the BLCF Hurdles Festival in Chelmsford, crossing the line in 59.58 behind Jessica Tappin's 58.99.
For Okoro, that's another Commonwealth Youth Games Q standard, but the 17 year old is now getting close to the Euro U20 standard of 59.00 too. That 59.58 sees Okoro go 2nd in the UK U20 standings this year behind Emily Newnham, 8th among European U20s, 3rd for Euro U18s and 6th in the world U18 rankings.Comment

Success Eduan also ran the 100m at yesterday's Newham meeting, winning her opening heat in 11.47 aided by a +3.5 tailwind.Comment
