Now the NCAA West 1st round is underway, and much like events in Jacksonville, British athletes have done well.

2. Brodie Young (U23) (New Mexico) - 46.19 Q. Impressive run from lane 1. His 4th fastest 400m run.

Men's 10,000m (Semi final - 12 advance to NCAA Finals in June)

6. Charles Hicks (U23) (Stanford) - 28:22,04 Q.

A solid 46.04 for Ed Faulds as he continues his return, qual for Euro u23 and one of his best times ever. He only ran faster in the semi and finals at Euro u20s. Hope for more to come.

Great jumping from Lucy, a real clutch jump to win the competition, presumably gets her world rankings points too. What are her chances of getting to the worlds. I note the auto qualifying target required is 6.85 The Uk selectors obviously rate Lucy highly as they were prepared to accept an invite that never came for the Euro indoor champs.

46.04 is way better than solid in my view, although it was to be expected after a 45.1 split at the Loughborough International on Sunday. Suggests he is completely back after his injury worries.

Men's Hammer (First Round - The top 12 will advance to Austin)

1. Kenneth Ikeji (U23) (Harvard) - 72.88m. All of Ikeji's three throws were beyond 72 meters as he sailed comfortably through to the NCAA Finals starting on June 7th.

This means that Ikeji’s last 4 comps have all been within a tight 1.24m range (this was the shortest). That is the kind of consistency from which big throws will eventually emerge.

Mixed picture from the remaining NCAA East and West 1st round results last night for the British U23 and U20 athletes competing.

While Yemi Mary John comfortably qualified for Saturday's quarter finals of the women's 400m in the NCAA West 1st round, clocking a season's best of 51.77 - her third fastest ever - to finish 2nd in her heat, it was a much more disappointing picture for Nayanna Dubarry-Gay. She was in heat 3 (next to Amber Anning btw), but she trailed in dead last in 54.92, her second slowest outing this year at the worst possible time.

(Anning wasn't much better, just a place further ahead and clocking 54.28. That is the slowest 400m Anning has run - indoors or outdoors - since the heats of the British Indoor Champs back in 2019... Ouch!)

Ore Adamson qualified for the NCAA Finals in two weeks time with an outdoor long jump PB 6.29m (+0.4), but Temi Ojora, who has been doing well in both long and triple jumps this year, crashed out after only managing a windy 6.05m (+3.0) best effort.

Shannon Flockhart won her 1500m heat in 4:15.92 to make it through to Saturday's quarter finals.

U23 long jumper Tia Jackson missed out on the NCAA Finals by 13cm, jumping a best of 6.06m (+1.7). (Isabel Wakefield and Alix Still were also involved and will be reported on in the 2023 UK Outdoors Results thread )

I assume this is Anning's injury worries leading to her blowing up. I hope she rests up and fixes herself... No chance she'll be in the Arkansas relay at NCAAs in two weeks time so she should get some time off.

Very disappointing performance from U23 athlete Adam Phillips in the NCAA East 1st Round, as the 22 year old, who improved his discus PB by 5m this year to 56.19m in April, could only manage a best effort of 48.95m.

Adam Clayton, 10.27 and 20.85, does not.
Brodie Young, 45.87, also does not move on.

I suppose the king of flag waving hype, MB, has an excuse for our number 1 short hurdler, Zeller who was awful in 14 plus.The endless "didnt they do well" is laughable. The young british athletes have been poor across the board with little exceptions.

Ian Hodge reports a '13.13 (1.4) in 100 hurdles for Abigail Pawlett in the Heptathlon!! That's a Eu23 qualifier.. (prev pb 13.42)' that is 1105 points, something our KJT would welcome instead of, what appears at Gotzis, the performance she achieved.

Meanwhile at the English Athletics Combined Events meeting, the sunny conditions and helpful following wind, has seen a bunch of impressive performances in the decathlon 100m and heptathlon 100m hurdles for the U23s and U20s competing.

Adam Hoole, who turned 20 on Thursday, got his decathlon competition off to a great start with a 10.70 PB (+1.2) in the 100m, an improvement of 1/10th on his prior best from last year. Fellow Scottish U23 Callum Newby was 3rd in that heat and equalled his 11.23 PB.

Then in the U20 contest, favourite Sammy Ball was the class of the field in his 100m heat, winning by .40 and setting a time of 10.86, just 0.02 off his recent PB.

The senior heptathlon 100m hurdles was similarly blessed with fair winds and fast times. Final "A" saw Abigail Pawlett and Jodie Smith facing off and it was Pawlett who prevailed in a magnificent 13.13 PB (+1.4), smashing her previous best by nearly 4/10ths and attaining the qualifying standard for the individual hurdles at the European U23s to boot! Smith was no slouch herself and she too broke her personal best, running 13.49.

In the U20 heptathlon it was a similar tale of PBs and season's best, with the biggest gain seen by Sale Harrier Freya Dockerty. Coming into today, her 100m hurdles PB was 14.93. In her heat though she utterly demolished it, flying down the track to clock new figures of 14.19 (+1.2), an 8/10ths improvement! And everybody else in that race set a PB too.

Annnd, then Abigail Pawlett immediately negates the massive gains she made in the 100m hurdles by only managing a "best" of 1.66m in the high jump. [Facepalm]

Some news from the Loughborough Throws Pathway International.

Charlotte Payne continues her good season with a 69.28m effort in the age-mixed hammer contest. Behind her in 3rd was U20 Angela McAuslan-Kelly, who threw a PB 58.32m in the final round and edges within sight of the Euro U20 Q standard of 59.00m.

In the men's hammer, which featured 4 U20s and an U18 competitor, Kai Barham added over 2m to his PB with his winning effort of 70.58 in round 4, a distance that secured the 18 year old the European U20 qualifying standard! He followed that up with a 70.51m in round 5 for good measure. Owen Merritt, who had come into the contest as the UK U20 leader, settled for 2nd place with a best of 66.81m.
