  • Another report from the ever-useful Ian Hodge that appears to have been missed was that of Lucy Hadaway making a solid start to her outdoor season with victory in the Yorkshire County Championships in 6.51m (0.0) which I'm sure must be a meeting/championship record.

That's easily the longest jump the 22 year old has managed in an outdoor debut and is the 6th longest of her career so far. Good omens for the remainder of the season.

    • Bit of a slow start to the season for Joe Ferguson: 10.51 and 21.11, per Ian Hodge.

Assuming it was solo that's not an awful rustbuster. If he's running those times in 3 weeks that's a different story.

To be fair, it's around where he was this time last year.

    • Josh Zeller getting back in form with 13.40 per Ian Hodge.

From world junior champion to Berkshire champion in 5 short years.

From 73.24 as an 18 year old in 2018 to 70.97 in 5 short years.

There may be a massive back story that I’ve missed. Apologies if that’s the case. But to an uninformed outsider looking in all you can see is massive talent criminally unfulfilled.

Seems to me that Norris's USA adventure didn't do him any favours, similar to how Molly Caudery's 2 years on the NCAA circuit seriously affected her confidence and ability. Hopefully like Caudery, Norris will start to recover his form and focus now that he is back on home soil.

Inclined to agree. And Taylor Campbell has has serious injuries since going to the US too.

Thing is when Norris first went to USA he was very successful including that World Junior title but post pandemic he struggled.

            • Not heard of Ensor Madden before but I see he rana a big pb 10.28 in Dubai on 5 May. Previous best 10.62.

                Hmmmmmmmmmmm...

Yeah, some nobody British ex-pat sprinter goes from 10.62 to 10.28 on the same track and the same day that another previously unheard of British ex-pat sprinter found a similar level of form out of nowhere? At least Kimberly Baptiste had been running close to those kinds of times in recent years, but her 23.07 new PB - performed into a -3.4 headwind no less! - that slashed over 2/10ths off her previous best over 200m, raises eyebrows.

Lets see if any of those three can sustain that kind of form away from the UAE. I have my doubts if they can.

I’m inclined to agree that something is not right.

            • In the BMC 800M "A" race two returnee's to the sport trying to refind their respective mojos. Firstly Sarah McDonald won the race in a time of 2:04:24. As Ian Hodge noted it's her first decentish performance for around 4 years. If she can rediscover her 4:00 minute 1500M speed she could make the squad for the worlds. In second place in a time of 2:04:71 was Lynsey Sharp. Lynsey is also coming back after a 4 year abscence but worryingly her time was no quicker than her two indoor performances earlier this year.

              • The BMC 1500M A race was won by Alex Botterill in a time of 3:42:04. Alex is a Commonwealth youth Gold medalist from 2017 and primarily a 800M runner so could be another one to watch with regard to his main event. I feel he could be another one to join the sub 1:45 club and as a first year senior his focus has to be the Worlds.

                • Another on the comeback trail is Jess Turner who ran 56:49 last night in the 400MH winning by 7 seconds so almost a solo clocking. A season opener and her first race for 10 months. Seemed to be struggling last season but looks a lot better this time round. Her season opener when she went on to run 54.77 in 2021 was 57.30 and was set pretty much at the same time of the season so this augers very well for Jess.

So, in order to watch Sunday's Loughborough International live you'll have to shell out around a tenner for a month's Runnerspace subscription - https://www.vincosport.com/gprofile....news_id=661696

I'm also very concerned that the BMC Grand Prixs will also be behind this paywall.

Oh that is some prime BULL**** right there.

Sure, I could understand them putting some events behind a paywall previously, and that still left events like Loughborough and the like free to view. But this stinks to high heaven.

Not sure the drive for all this cash, but entries was 20, tickets are 8 and now this!

                    • Exciting new career opportunities for Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (from now on, Nitro) and Montell Douglas (Flash) - They’re going to be in the Gladiators reboot!

Seem to remember that PVer Janine Whitlock was briefly in the original series. Do certainly remember that 400m runner Brian “One Shoe” Whittle was a competitor.

It was Kate Staples not Janine Whitlock who was in the original series
