17 y o Natasha Phillips has run a 71.56 HM. Must be a UK u20 record I think, as so few run such long distances at this age; the u23 record is 71.03.Comment

MHS starts his season with 20.71 over 200.
Also in the US Michael Ohioze, who was part of our admittedly disastrous 4x4 team in Tokyo, sets a substantial PB over 100 of 10.39, coupled with his second fastest ever over 200, 20.78.Last edited by Occasional Hope; 22-03-23, 19:37.👍 2Comment

On that note , last Saturday, 2022 European 200m champion Zharnel Hughes opened his season with a dominant victory over 200m at the JW Speed Fest meeting in Kingston, Jamaica. The meeting was plagued by strong headwinds throughout, but despite having to run into such a wind of -1.7m/s, Hughes still managed a time of 20.25, his fastest season opener over the distance in five years (20.23 on March 28th, 2018).Comment

Other very early outdoors results from British athletes that have been missed were outdoor PBs for U23 decathlete Jack Turner in the 100m hurdles (14.33 (+1.7m/s), a massive 8/10ths improvement having only had a best over the senior hurdles outside 15.1 before this year) and 400m (48.32) at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas on March 4th. That's inline with his rate of progress shown during the NCAA indoor season, where his new Heptathlon points total PB of 5794 at the Conference USA Indoor Championships moved him up to 2nd on the UK U23 all time list behind Tim Duckworth, but would have seen Turner finish a respectable 6th place at the European Indoors.
With his improvement, as well as Sam Talbot's 5823 PB from February, there is perhaps finally a few signs of life in the men's multi events scene in the UK after years of underachievement.
More recently, Sam Bennett, former EU18 110m hurdles champion from the 2018 edition at Gyor, Hungary, completed his first run over the senior height hurdles since 2018 (a wind legal 14.31 and a couple of wind assisted 14.2s) on the 16th March in Houston, Texas. (It's also his first full 110m hurdles overall since 2020) Though blown along a +4.0m/s gale, Bennett's time of 13.75 in victory here signals that his return to action this winter will be translated into good times outdoors. According to Ian Hodge who reported this result on his Twitter page, said that his 2018 PB will "take a beating this spring".
Also from Hodge's Twitter, he mentions Zoe Pollock, who is currently at the University of Georgia, ran her 2nd best ever 400mH time with 57.38 over in Atlanta, just 2/10ths down on her 57.17 PB set at the 2021 European U23 Championships.👍 1Comment

At the Aztec Invitational meeting in San Diego, Anne Purchase won the hammer competition with a best throw of 67.05m, winning by nearly 10 meters.Comment
-
At the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, Sarah Omoregie made a promising start to her outdoor campaign by throwing the shot put 16.80m to finish in 2nd place. That effort is an outdoor PB and her 3rd best ever throw overall, behind her 17.08m outright PB she produced in February during the indoor NCAA season.Comment

At the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, NCAA Indoor 800m champion Yusuf Bizimana had to settle for 4th place in his first outdoor 800m of the season, narrowly behind fellow Brit Tiarnan Crorken. 23 year old Crorken, in his 2nd year at Ole Miss University, finished in a time of 1:46.82, just 1/100th ahead of Bizimana, and for both men their times would represent their 2nd fastest ever times outdoors.

Improving multi eventer Alix Still opens her outdoor NCAA campaign with three pbs in events in the heptathlon at the Texas Relays: 13.75 in the hurdles and 25.05 in the 200, and 35.03 in the javelin. Dreadful shot though, under 11m, and other events below her best, but still took her to an overall pb score of 5491.Comment
