The only justified reason for the Neita hype machine was her run in Berlin of 7.05. All the current indications are that Neita has a mental weakness which I believe will affect her career over the next few years whenever the stakes are high. There has always been examples of talented athletes who cannot perform at their best when competing against the elite. Sad but thats the sport.

That pentathlon was fantastic, never thought we'd see two break the WR - have to feel for Sulek there, but Thiam is just so good. Such a pity the heptathlon WR is out of reach of clean athletes or I could see her ending her career with both - unless Sulek keeps improving and overtakes her! I do feel for KJT, a lot of bad luck in her career and I doubt she can get on terms with these two now; at least she did get that World Championships gold so she's got something for her career but very much a "what might have been", unlucky with injuries, with hiccups in competition, and with being up against some of the best of all time.
Neita... yep, talent's there, execution under pressure is not. To be fair, beating Kambundji would've taken a NR, but silver was up for grabs, it's a pity. She's young and still has time to sort the mental side; we've seen others who seemed lost causes on that front learn to manage it better (such as KJT!) so maybe in years to come she'll learn how to repeat her heat performances when it counts. And after all, getting a bronze is better than no medals, so could've been worse.Comment

Neita underperformed yet again in the final and all adult posters here know it.
Neita was given .more interview time and expectations tans after her 7.05. If this is not recognised by a poster, I dont really care .
Mystery , it is somewhat immature and childish to automatically disagree with every post I text, especially as you spend most of your posts overegging all british athletes and trying to justify your stuff with unconvincing stats
Last year it was your "informed " view that the current top Brit middle distance athletes are every bit as good as the glorious three and others( nonsense!) The other day you stated our top female sprinters are , if fit,as good as any in the world, reference some relay discussion.! When I expressed
An optimistic observation by me re the Clayton girls and your immediate disdainful rejoinder was to comment on their youth. If those gals were GB athletes you would no doubt be shouting from the roof tops that they were goi g to be world beaters. Why do you not grow up?
For me lots of stats looked up in books do not grant one superior views or knowledge of athletics and athletes.

Um, who has said she didn't?
And we all knew Kambundji and Swoboda both have better PBs over 60, so I don't think anyone expected gold anyway. -
I agree, Neita underperformed in the final. I think everyone expected that and said so... as Occasional Hope says, please don't reply to what you expect people to have said but what they actually did...

Disaster for Ehammer with 3 fouls in the long jump and his heptathlon campaign is over almost before its begun.Last edited by RunUnlimited; 04-03-23, 07:37.Comment

Poor old Ehammer doing a KJT with three no-jumps. I guess better at Euro indoors than world outdoors...
Reece Prescod looked good in the 60 heats, and Jacobs looks to be coming back into form. The other Brits looked rather ordinary. I wish Charlie Dobson was there.
Ingebrigtsen looks ready for the double.

Neita was ranked to come 3rd by .most posters but she far slower in the final than she should. That's the point.Comment

Gardasevic, who came into these European Indoors as the European leader for the long jump (before Vuleta jumped a new WL in today's qualifying), has failed to make it into the final.Comment

I have said it before, but it needs saying again, I recall sitting nearby Captain Sawyers many moons ago at the Lea Valley Indoor stadium and being struck how small in stature she was compared to other long jumpers... Well to me Jazmin Sawyers is the epitome of making the most of her talent, having medalled often under great pressure, performed where others more gifted have failed. Whatever she has UK Athletics needs to bottle it. I suspect a successful media career is beckoning once she moves on from athletics.
On another note... I have actually been very impressed by the commentary of Stef Reid. Articulate, insightful, well informed, has been asking some intelligent questions of her fellow commentators and hasn't mangled the more challenging surnames.👍 2Comment

HAA said Prescod has put on more muscle this year. I don't see that, he looks like the sleeker athlete of 2017/18. His lateral movement from last year has gone. A fit Prescod with an uncomplicated technique should run very fast. He's thriving in his training group with Azu, Gemili and I believe Su the Chinese athlete has also been training with them.Comment

@Ladyloz
Agreed. His 60m PB is a fairly modest 6.59 (if Adam ever committed to a full indoor program, that would be much lower imo), set in 2018, and he's never competed at either a EIC or a WIC in his career.
We'll see where he's at whenever he starts his outdoor season. -
Fair enough, let's see how it goes.
