Not too proud to admit I had tears for Jazmin Sawyers. Holm-esque to watch an athlete of her stature fly out over 7m - Remarkable and ever reliable. Fiona's little girl doesn't look half bad either.Comment

Also, she beat some *all-time greats* there. Vuleta is #3 on the all-time indoor list with 7.24m in 2017and won the Euros last year, Mihambo is Albums on that same list and is double World and current Olympic Champion (and is one of only 2 women over 7.30m in the last 15 years).Comment

I am more surprised with Iapichino's 6.97 and silver than I am with Jaz's 7.00 and gold. Jaz always puts herself in the mix. It was only a matter of time before she got to this level.
If she stays fit, she'll stay up there too. That jump, with a nice little summer breeze behind, could threaten the outright NR.Comment

I'm not too fussed with the overall British performance, our stars did the business, Jaz was great, etc. Some of the usual people disappointed.
And it seems a really competitive field in regards to which countries are winning the medals, Norway finished top of the medal table. Them, Belgium, Switzerland, Dutch womens seemed to have someone in every event. Some of the 'bigger' european nations are behind.Comment

Though it must be remembered that GB could have sent another team of athletes who had gained the Q standard for Istanbul but didn't compete due to it not being in their plans or not doing a winter season at all, (Dina Asher-Smith, Lansiquot, V.Ohuruogu, Yeargin, Pipi, NMB, Heyward, Stonier. Burgin, Kerr, Rowden, Atkin), late injury (AHW, Metzger), or are currently involved in the hyper-busy NCAA indoor season and wouldn't be able to come anyway (Anning, Yemi Mary John, Marcia Sey, Tade Ojora, Zeller). Heck, the top *4* women in the UK rankings over 400m alone were unavailable because of this, so you can easily imagine that the 4x400m squad would have looked a whole lot different to the one we ended up seeing.
And despite all of the absentees, GB ended 3rd on the medal table with 3 golds and 6 medals overall. If the team was at it's full strength, then it wouldn't be far-fetched to suggest it would have topped the medal charts on both medal total *and* golds.

Absolutely delighted for Sawyers, what a performance! She's always been one of my favourites; so reliable in performing to the best of her ability, but I'd thought she'd probably already reached her ceiling given her height compared with many others - I couldn't be happier to be wrong, what a great win with a properly world-class distance on the scoreboard. If that's the form she's in this year I look forward to seeing what she can do in the summer.
Says it all about Hodgkinson lately that I was not so excited over her win (well, Sawyers did rather overshadow it); it was just exactly as expected, no drama. All credit to her, it's just expected really, which is impressive in itself when she's still so young.
Rest of the day was a bit underwhelming for GB, Lake justified my not picking her in the predictions (I nearly did but remembered her past patterns of when she does and does not get seasons bests... she could learn a lot from Sawyers), the relays were, well, there (in fairness to the women, they didn't underperform, just weren't anywhere near our best lineup). King and the 3000s pair did alright, Learmonth I'd say actually finished slightly above expectations given his renowned tactical ability...!
Not sure if it was just me but the field event coverage felt like a confusing mess; I'm not a morning person so gave up on following anything live and just watched my recorded BBC coverage without any live scoring, what a total lack of information... I completely lost track of what was going on in the vertical jumps when we'd see one jump every now and then with no info about who else was still in the competition. Not entirely the Beeb's fault I think, given the commentators were regularly saying how they can't control the pictures, but if they had access to score charts an occasional rundown would've helped. At least thankfully they managed to show enough of the wLJ to know exactly what was happening with Sawyers!Comment

Actually, being left to the mercy of the host broadcaster probably meant we saw more field coverage than usual even if it wasn't always the bits we wanted. -
I really think that the flow of following the field events was (and always is) affected very negatively by all the returning to the studio for "Gabbin' with Gabby". If you watched the world feeds they were pretty well covered I thought and there were regular on-screen graphics showing the current positions.

Oh wow...I gave in to the awkward time zone and just started watching replays today : happy but hardly surprised to see Keely dominate her event ; a few other performances about as expected/feared ... But then that WLJ !
Was thinking Jaz would miss a medal because of miniscule overstepping on big jumps - and then she produces that monster : the look on her face as she saw the distance has made my week ...
What a competitor she is. Nobody I can think of more deserving of that gold medal : just brilliant 👏👏👏Comment

Stef Reid ... Yes, a very good addition to the team. She knows her stuff and clearly follows the sport on a daily basis. I don't get the impression with the likes of Backley and Denise that they are watching much athletics inbetween major championships.
Also, with all the time Stef has spent in this country she seems to have lost all the annoying phrasing and pronunciations that American commentators have!
