The selection policy says they're allowed up to three athletes per event, and world or Olympic medallists can have a place on the team if they like. 2023-European-Indoor-Championships-Selection-Policy-V2.pdf (uka.org.uk)

I know we're used to only sending two to an indoor champs, but three (plus a reserve) is confirmed on the official site: Entry Standards (istanbul2023.org) I wonder if the change is going in tandem with the higher entry standards?

Three per country at the European Indoors isn't a new thing either - it's the World Indoors that restricts it to two.

By no criteria can a fan of both track and FIELD athletics state "the mens field is exceptional, " (your words ,) when there are no names against the field events. I realise every word texted by a few posters is regarded as sacrilege to disagree with,, but this is a forum where the pearls of wisdom from a few posters can and will be challenged where justified.

I'd put Lucy Hadaway in the women's LJ as a "maybe", seeing as she's jumped the UKA consideration distance for possible selection. Her finishing 2nd at the UK Indoors would have also helped with ranking points. She just might get an invite, but it's an outside shot.

The "Road to Istanbul" rankings have been updated - https://www.european-athletics.com/c...9592&country=0

She's currently 25th on the list and there'll only be 18 women in the Long Jump field so she'd need a lot of non-selections and/or invitation refusals to get an invitation from EA.

a few people ahw, rowden , vicky o, yeargin , pipi , neilsen etc getting a bit too big for their boots and should realise that chances to win medals are limited

Its partly a reflection of our very limited quality in numerous events. Perhaps our best!! are saving themselves for summer. Our over rated 400m runners with potential not yet arrived will have much to do in a few months time.
I would have been content to see Laura resting for these champs, with bigger things to come.

I think generally Indoors has always been seen as an optional extra as it were, so a tad OTT. Haydock-Wilson pulled out of the final so may have picked up an injury at the weekend; hopefully nothing too serious if so. Not sure why Nielsen & Pipi are not there given they ran the Champs at the weekend.

weve got tonnes of quality on the track side of things if they all chose to compete, i agree that the mens field is utterly dire at the moment, along with the womens throws

i think the team is fairly strong, it could have been stronger though - the mens and womens 60 we have a decent chance at gold , 800, and 1500 on the womens side are barring injury pretty much bankers for gold , gourley should be picking up a medal in the 1500, snowden and baker in the womens may have a chance at a minor medal, bryant in the 3000 has a medal chance, boffey in the 800 too, lake , sawyers and maybe mills have a chance of a medal if they perform too

GB track is in good shape and this team reflects that. Even without some major hitters like DAS, Wightman and a host of 800m guys, the strength is there and it’s proving itself on a global level.

Where this team really shows our weakness is in the field. Most worrying for me is that we aren’t seeing a whole lot of talented U23s and those around that age ready to break into the team. This champs has always been a good one to blood talent at a major champs but in the mens PV, HJ, TJ there was nobody anywhere near being selected this year.

If we take out the likes of Bradshaw, Metzger and McKinna from their events, the strength in depth behind them just isn’t there. There are LOADS of athletes that just haven’t competed indoors this year and I won’t draw too many conclusions as to what this means for the outdoors, but it’s not great that we have zero men’s field eventers in Istanbul
