Wow, 12.51 NR (+1.2) for Ditaji Kambundji (SUI) in the 100m Hurdles Heats at the CITIUS Meeting in Bern (at 550m altitude). A 0.17s PB for her.

Pia Skrzy 2nd in 12.62 SB. Amoi Brown (JAM) won the 1st heat in 12.59 PB. The final is in under an hour's time.

Watching the CITIUS Meeting in Bern ...

Drones should be banned from athletics stadiums!

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Really enjoying the World University Games ...

The Men's 400 Final was a cracking race, the first two separated by just three-thousandths. Joao Coelho (POR) the winner in 44.79, improving his own NR and 20yo Aussie Reece Holder with a 0.86s PB for the silver.

In the Women's 100 Hurdles Final, Viktoria Forster (SVK) ran another NR, 12.72, to win from Yanni Wu (CHN), 12.76 PB, and Asian champion Jyothi Yarraji (IND), 12.78 NR. Yanni Wu had been in that Asian Championships final with Yarraji but false started. Forster improved her NR by 0.10s and Yarraji hers by 0.04.

Poland's Nikola Horowska won the 200 Final today in 23.00 after winning the Long Jump on Day 1 (6.60).

Three medals for Japan so far. The most is China's 5 - they're really getting spread around with 27 countries winning a medal so far.

Japan should add a few medals, maybe with the 20km Walks on Saturday morning but especially in the Half Marathons on Sunday morning (all of those live streamed). There's also team medals available in those races.

One of their 5 in the Men's Half Marathon is the terrific 20yo Kotaro Shinohara, already with a 60:11 PB and 27:43 for 10,000.

Great moment in the FISU 10,000m - lapped Ugandan runner picked up & attempted to pace run for his team-mate - got an instant red card!

Good to see another PB from Lansiquot at the Loughborough meeting
80.82 for Vetter and 76.62 for Rohler. At least Vetter is, slowly, heading in the right direction and threw 85 last year. Rohler’s 78m this year and just 72 last.

Hofmannn just one comp for 74m.

    Bit sad really.

At Saturday's Athlete Night Games in Fukui ...

In the Men's 110 Hurdles 21yo Rashid Muratake was returning to competition after being injured back in May and he ran 13.18 (+0.9) in the final, a 0.07s PB, closely followed by Shusei Nomoto, 13.20, a 0.08s PB for him.

This means that there's now 4 men in Japan who have run 13.20 or faster in the last 12 months!

In 3rd Taiga Yokochi also ran a PB, 13.33, chopping 0.12s off his best and two other men ran sub-13.5. In 2023 alone 10 Japanese men have run sub-13.5.

As the first 2 at the Japanese Championships, Izumiya & Takayama are on the Budapest team. Who will they pick for the 3rd spot though?

Shuhei Tada won the 100 in 10.10 (+0.8) and there were a slew of PBs behind him, including Naoki Okami, 10.15 & Akihiro Higashida, 10.16.

Sadly, Mako Fukube & Yumi Tanaka were DNS's in the Women's 100 Hurdles.

The Women's Long Jump was incredibly close with just 2cm covering the first 4 athletes! In the 6th round Maya Takeuchi catapulted from 4th place to victory by improving from 6.20 to 6.22.

At the 2-day Naoto Tajima Memorial in Yamaguchi, also a Japan GP series meeting ...

The Men's 400 was won by Ruki Iwasaki in 45.19, a 0.59s PB and he hadn't run faster than 46.45 previously this season! That now makes 4 Japanese men who've run sub-45.2 this year, a banner season for the event in Japan.

The depth in the Women's 100 was pretty good ... for Japan anyway! Five women ran 11.66 or faster (+1.1 wind) with 3 of them 19 year-olds, including the winner Wakana Okane, 11.55.

The first 3 in the Men's High Jump all jumped 2.26, led by Tomohiro Shinno.
Maybe the 400m guys and short hurdlers can give a few pointers over here.!!

Andre De Grasse didn't make the 100m final at the Canadian Champs but did win the 200m final in 20.01; perhaps starting to find some form at the right time. He has definitely saved his best performances in the past for the major champs.

    Thanks.

In a way I’d almost rather it had been teenage loss of interest - out for a season injured at that age isn’t good.
