Just finished watching the Italian and Spanish Indoor Championships and they were very enjoyable with a lot of good names and top athletes in action. There was some doubling in the distances too, e.g., Ludovica Cavalli, Federica del Buono & Marta Garcia.

In Madrid there was also 3 National Records plus one absolutely amazing race you have to watch, the Men's 800 final - probably the best race there'll be all indoor season! Before you read on (spoiler below), watch that at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biLbZkAEeOM

    Italian Championships

    Women
400: 1 Folorunso 52.28 iPB. There was 2 or 3 indoor PBs behind her as well.
    1500: See post # 36
3000: 1 Ludovica Cavalli completing the double (Battocletti absent). 9:14 winning time but a 29.0 last 200
    60H: See post # 37
TJ: 1 Dariya Derkach 14.12, 2 Ottavia Cestonaro 14.11 iPB
    PV: 1 Roberta Bruni 4.62 iPB ... 3 Giulia Valetti Borgnini 4.42 (a 12cm outright PB for this 21yo)

    Men
    60: 1 Samuele Ceccarelli 6.54 PB, 2 LM Jacobs 6.55
    800: 1 Catalin Tecuceanu 1:45.99 iPB, 2 Simone Barontini 1:46.82 iPB
60H: 1 Lorenzo Ndele Simonelli 7.66 PB (Dal Molin 7.54 in the heats; DNS in final)
    SP: 1 Fabbri 21.60, 2 Weir 21.46

    Spanish Championships

    Women
60: 1 Jael Bestue 7.19 PB, 2 Maribel Perez 7.31 (Perez won't be going to Euros this time)
400: 1 Eva Santidrian 53.05 (improved her indoor PB by 1.37s this weekend!)
3000: This was Marta versus Marta (Perez and Garcia). Perez had beaten Garcia by 0.5s when they both got the Euros standard in France a couple of weeks ago. Here, after going through 2000 in 6:22 the last 1000 was fast and furious (2:45-high) and they were neck-and-neck on the final lap until Perez just edged ahead in the final 20m to win by 0.04s.
60H: 1 Xenia Benach 8.07 (8.01 PB in the heats - a qualifier for Stamboul)
    LJ: 1 Fatima Diame 6.66

    Men
400: 1 Husillos 45.58 iNR, 2 Inaki Canal 45.89 iPB, 3 Manuel Guijarro 46.07 SB and David Garcia 46.60 in the semis (a Spanish U20 indoor record)
800: What a tremendous race, and loaded too! Fast and furious after Mariano Garcia had taken it out at 50.53 at 400, there was the inevitable flailing on the last lap. With 50m to go there was 5 in contention at the front ... 1 Saul Ordonez 1:45.88 iPB CR, 2 Mariano Garcia 1:45.91, 3 Javier Miron 1:45.98 iPB, 4 Adrian Ben 1:46.12 iPB, 5 Elvin Josue Canales 1:46.23 (outright PB by 1.3s !). All 5 were inside the Euros standard but presumably Ben & Canales will miss out.
3000: Mechaal soloed to victory in 7:42.9. He was attacking the CR but missed it by a few tenths.
60H: 1 Enrique Llopis 7.48 =NR, 2 Daniel Cisneros 7.64 PB ... European champ Asier Martinez hit the penultimate hurdle hard
TJ: 1 Jordan Diaz 17.59 - indoor Spanish record

I'm now going to try to watch the Polish, French & Finnish Championships over the next couple of days. I want to be as informed as I possibly can be for the Euro Indoors Prediction Contest !

Ordonez had a lovely time there with a personal pacemaker for 795m!!!

Really strong running there, great depth.

Reetta Hurske is becoming so consistent in the 7.8-low range - 7.82 in the semis in Madrid just now. Wouldn't be surprised if she went something like 7.76 or 7.77 in the final tonight or in Istanbul.

By the way, anyone who's watched the Finnish TV broadcasts of their summer GP meetings will probably know that it's pronounced Retta (with a rolled 'r') rather than Rita.

They've got the track events back on the WA feed.

It turns out that Elvin Canales (mentioned 2 posts above in that Spanish 800) is from Honduras.

I note Aminatou Seyni has just run a 60m PB of 7.11. What will they be capable of over 200 this summer? Another eligibility storm is brewing thanks to the powers that be being unable to get to grips with common sense...

Can't wait for another round of 'everything is racist' when legitimate questions regarding Seyni's participation are inevitably raised after the impeding jaw-dropping performances.

EDIT: Down to 7.08 in the final.

Ha, bang on! A 7.77 NR and WL for Hurske in the final, her 5th NR of the winter.

          What's she going to do outdoors? 12.5 ? 12.4x ?!

Oh, corrected to 7.79 so no longer spot on and no longer a WL for Reetta. Another Scandi NR in the final for Denmark's Mette Graversgaard, 8.00, taking 0.01 off her own record.

Of course, they both have a way to go to beat the Scandinavian record.

Very fine run. Klosterhalfen was well off the European record.

              So close!

Glad that Koko didn't take Laura's European Record. Not close!

In just her 2nd race back after almost a year off with injury, Klara Lukan ran a 8:44.80 Solvenian NR.

8:31.20 PB for the 21yo Mizan Alem (ETH).

Marquis Dendy certainly has a unique sense of style - a cross between small child at seaside and armed robber today.

                What a great 1500 !

Behind Gourley's British record, Mechaal took 0.04s off the 24 year-old Spanish indoor NR and Andrew Coscoran ran an Irish NR.

Now beaten by the 50.15 of Talitha Diggs, niece of Jearl Miles and daughter of one of the Clark sisters.

This event could be scorching outdoors this summer.

                        He’s just ridiculous!

Totally clean clearance and his high point was miles over.

Julian Alfred looks terrific with a 6.97 and 22.23 at the conference meet SEC. Last year this athlete from St.Lucia dqed at Eugene I recall.

Surely indoors and altitude matters nowt and what is done in the summer is what is important?
