And just moments ago in the BUCS Indoor Championships, Emily Newnham smashes her indoor 400m PB in winning her semi-final heat in 53.90. That's the 2nd fastest time the 18 year old has managed ever, indoors or out.

She goes straight to the top of the UK U20 2023 rankings, and it's a time that pushes Newnham up into 10th in the world for U20s so far.

Looking good for Newnham's primary event, the 400mH, during the outdoor season.

Emily Newnham wins the BUCS Indoor Championship 400m final in 53.18, an outright personal best, and improving upon her U20 2023 leading position.

Newnham's run places her 4th on the UK all time list for U20 indoor 400m performances, with only Amber Anning, Marilyn Neufville and WU20 champion Yemi Mary John, now ahead of her. Impressive stuff.

Big pb of 8.22 for heptathlete Jodie Smith (down from 8.33) to beat Marli Jessop over the 60 hurdles at BUCS.

Jodie Smith followed that performance on Friday to win the gold in the long jump with her opening effort of 6.24m, a season's best and her 3rd longest jump overall.

On the kind of form she's shown indoors so far, Smith should be comfortably getting beyond the 6000 point barrier in the heptathlon this summer.

Agreed re Istanbul! It was at Marilyn’s post, suggesting Laura was getting on a bit and would probably struggle in the summer etc. She may well do, given the rising talent, but she’s gutsy and will fight to the end!

That time from Anning puts her up to 3rd on the UK indoor 400m all list, and indeed, she is the 11th fastest Brit ever over 400m overall. She is some talent.

Laura’s only run three races this year, including today - it does seem she and Keely have been everywhere, but I think it’s more the press know those two are names the public are aware of and have promoted them more. She has certainly been around for quite some time and the depth is increasing, but I wouldn’t write her off just yet.

For now - Laura, Keely, Neil, Daryll all look like solid gold/silver medal contenders after today - with the likes of Prescod, Boffey, Snowden, Courtney-Bryant, Lake and the men’s 4x4 as our other likely medal chances. Not sure where that would leave us against historic hauls, but looks good for the team that’s going
