I think it depends what she means by a training session. If she’s e.g. added in Pilates and is counting that as an extra day, all good. If it’s adding another 60% of the same sessions, that would feel a lot, certainly initially, and can see athletes go backwards to move forwards

Mia McIntosh ran 7.83 in her second race. In her AW interview Mia said she was increasing her training from 3 to 5 days, which seems a huge jump for a 17 year old. Interested in the thinking behind that. Anyway, for an athlete known for their start, it was bizarre to watch.

Another result from the Be Fit Together Today Track Academy meeting at Lee Valley on Sunday was seeing first year U17 Nell Desir (who is still 14 years old btw; she'll turn 15 in March) winning the 60m in 7.61, a nice way for her to start the 2023 season.
Also in the field was European U18 100m hurdles champion Mia McIntosh, making her first appearance since being forced to pull out of the World U20s due to injury. It wasn't such a good outing for her however, a sluggish start leading to an eventual 6th place finish in 7.75, quite a bit down on the 7.49 PB she set over 60m last season. Hopefully this is just a case of blowing the cobwebs out.Last edited by RunUnlimited; 11-01-23, 01:26.

I don't want to heap pressure on the young lad but the 1500 run by Oscar Schofield at the Sheffield BMC was impressive ... ran most of it on his own, for a PB of 3:52.53 ... He is an U17, and others may correct me here, but I am pretty sure the commentator said the run was an indoor record for the age group. He is coached by Trevor Painter and I suspect he goes a great gallop beside our Keely in training. A real prospect.

Just watching the action from the Lee Valley indoor meet on YouTube... and Ojie Edoburun got his season off to a decent start with victory in 6.63. In a close 2nd was Medwin Odamtten, who set a big PB of 6.67, going sub 6.7 for the first time and rocketing the still 17 year old sprinter (who turns 18 in August) up into equal 5th on the UK's U20 all time list for the 60m.

5832 for Sam Talbot for a spectacular return to form in the combined events. A tasty 7.85 over 60H included in that.

2.00.99 pb for Izzy Boffey in Sheffield, running effectively on her own.

Eloise Walker 8.56.77 running with the men over 3000m. Big breakthrough from her running 15.25 over 5000m and making the Scottish Commies team. Coached by Trevor Painter according to PO10 so one to keep an eye on.
