    • Crickey... Josh Kerr at the Millrose Games, New York, in his first *ever* 3000m race indoors (as well as his first race over the distance since he was an U17 athlete back in 2014!), smashes Andrew Butchart's Scottish indoor record with a superb 7:33.47 for the victory! It's a meeting record as well as the fastest time ever run at The Armoury facility.

Such was the outstanding quality of the race that everyone of the 11 runners who finished the race, set personal bests, with 3 of them joining Kerr in setting national records too!

3:49 indoor Mile for Gourley in 2nd behind Nuguse too, he's in really good shape.

    • Neil Gourley, in coming runner up to Yared Nuguse's stupendous indoor mile time, moves up into 5th on the world all time list, 2nd on the European all time list (ahead of Irish legend Eamonn Coghlan, who set his then 3:49.78 WR back in 1983 and held it for 14 years) and 2nd on the British all time list, with his 3:49.46! He also becomes just the 9th man in history to run sub-3:50 indoors!

      • Muir wins yet again.
But Katie Snowden also very impressive in 3rd (and a 4:03 indoor 1500 en route).
Jemma is still working her way back to full fitness. (But at least she kept her record.)

        • Adam Clayton's solid start to 2023 continues as he lowered his PB in the 200m over at his home college's Texas Tech Jarvis Open yesterday. Clayton clocked 20.72 in winning his final, further extending his lead at the top of the UK standings so far, and this performance from the 22 year old moves him up to 13th on the UK all time list indoors. Impressive stuff.

Kiah Dubarry-Gay, also competing for Texas tech, ran 23.92, a season's best, to win her 200m final also.

He's certainly giving U17 rankings leader D'Mitri Varlack all that he can handle. Varlack's been a bit off form and hasn't yet gone beyond 7m, though he has improved with each round so far.

And now Varlack goes out to 7.13m in the 5th round! Going to be a tasty final round!

In the end that PB from Sam Wright was good enough to take the gold medal. D'Mitri Varlack came close, with 5th and 6th round efforts of 7.13 and 7.10m, but the pre-competition favourite will have to settle for U17 silver today.

            • Last year's surprise European U18 shot put champion, Cleo Ayepong, wins the U20 title today in Sheffield. She was by far the best putter in the field and everyone of her legal throws would have won the contest. But she saved her best for last, throwing the shot out to a near-season's best of 14.10.

              • There's been PBs and SB's galore in the U17 women's triple jump final, with leader Qi-Chi Ukpai's (b. 2008) first two efforts going out further than she's ever done before. Her 2nd round 11.79 is what has her in the lead.

True Occasional Hope It will be interesting to see how she does in the outdoor version of these championships later this year, or whether she'll compete in the Combined Events champs in the heptathlon.

              • The U17 60m hurdles heats were dominated by the top 2 in the UK rankings this year. No.1 Thea Brown a promising heptathlete, and no.2 Isabelle Mardle, didn't lead the timing sheets, but they were by far the best technically over the hurdles, with the tall rangy Brown looking like she was stepping over them on her way to an easy looking, 8.87 time.

                • The U20 women's hurdles heats saw 4 of the top 5 in the UK rankings compete (Mia McIntosh current UK no.1 and winner of the U20 title in a championship record 8.22 last year, and of course the EU18 100m hurdles champion, is not here), with Meg Corker the fastest qualifier into this evening's final with 8.47.

                    • Will Lane sets a big PB of 4.86 in the U20 pole vault final to win the gold medal, a 14 cm improvement.

                      • In the big match up between the two talented U20 hurdlers, Jaiden Dean and Daniel Goriola, sees Dean get the upper hand in the 2nd heat, running a new PB of 7.74 as he edged ahead of Goriola in a tight finish. Goriola himself was rewarded with a shiny new PB too of 7.77.

That will be some final in an hour or so.

With those times, Dean moves up into 3rd on the 2023 world lists for U20s, while Goriola goes 5th.
