  • One day we will learn to stay in our own lane, you just don't see the likes of Jamaica making sloppy mistakes like that. The girls have learnt a very harsh lesson on the consequences of not concentrating the whole race.

Jamaican men's 4x4 got DQ'd. Not sure what for.

  • There were some top top teams in that w4x4. Scotland must have run out of their socks to get bronze, even with that smidgen of luck!

Zoey Clark must have run a great leg. And I could barely believe it when I saw Yeargin blasting down the home straight in hot pursuit of Jamaica.

    • The silver lining, I suppose, is that Scotland did manage to get the baton round within the rules, although their foot speed was obviously less.

The frustration is that the two women responsible for the mess up are respectively our fastest on SB, and the current athlete with the fastest PB, so it's hard to drop either.

But I'm sure there will be an inquest within the relay training camp as to what happened, why, and hopefully they will work out how Not To Do It Again.

      • I think athletics had a VAR moment tonight, there may have been officials on the in field who saw Williams step over the line at the time of the incident, a few people on Twitter noticed it straight away. The athletes were allowed to celebrate and do a lap of honour before being told that they had been DQd, when the correct thing to do would be to delay the result for two minutes while the race official analysed video footage to confirm the DQ. Canada missed out on their victory lap as well.

Its one of those difficult situations where the correct call was to DQ, while it’s also apparent that no advantage was gained and the incident didn’t affect or slow down any other athlete.

The DQ has somewhat taken the attention away from what was a very good race and a fine effort on the line from Jessie. Konstantine’s leg was clocked at 50.68, the quickest of the night

        • Nadeems NR is now better than Chopras. That was one hell of a final. Javelin continues to be the united colours of Benetton of the athletics world. I noticed the young Bahamian claimed bronze at the world U20. The womens final was extremely good quality too, Little threw 2 PBs before being pipped at the post

          • Finally caught the women's 4x400 and frankly that first change was just stupid.

            • That silly way to lose a hard won relay medal is very hard to take - must be much worse for the women involved (and a bit of a downer for the crowd after appearing to end the whole show on a massive highlight. Made worse by the fact that it was one of those "technical" breaches that actually harmed no one and made no difference to the result of the race.
However I don't see much point in pointing fingers at the athlete(s) who messed up : they know ; they remain a fine and improving pair of runners and frankly one error doesn't mean they are either incompetent or likely to make a similar mistake again - if anything , much less likely ! Once bitten...

A huge disappointment ; but still - added to the WC effort - a good sign for the future of the event. Now : if they can just do something about the men ...

              • Good night for Scotland with the somewhat fortuitous bronze added to a worthy triumph for Laura Muir and McColgan collecting silver to go with her gold. The day overall seemed mildly underwhelming for the English team (like most of the programme to be honest ) : some good performances , some medals but often not the colour they'd wanted . I am sure those with more expertise than I will be analysing results in detail so we can consider what was due to (a) athlete not quite good enough/made errors ; or (b) performed at higher than expected level and unfortunate to find an outstanding opponent on the day.

With 3 competitions sandwiched into a few weeks we knew there were going to be effects/choices which render results , up to a point , less than totally definitive ; so I am not going to go overboard one way or another over any individual event. Will see what happens at Euros and then we can all have fun considering what it all might mean for the next two years ... while recognizing we will still be largely guessing

                • Obvs I would say this but I do think the mens 4x1 team deserve huge credit. Two very untested members coming in and nailing it. Was amazing to be there for 😍

                  • in 3 out of the last 8 CGs, the team crossing the line first in the women's 4x400m has been disqualified. Sadly, the score is England 2 Australia 1.

When I first briefly glimpsed a replay of the incident, I was hoping against hope that Jodie had just been over the line before she received the baton but that clearly wasn't the case. Sad for Ama Pipi whose consistency and reliability have improved a lot this year.

Nadeem is obviously a big strong unit, but in many respects he looks like he’s still learning the event. Imagine what he might do with some fluency in his run up.

Elbow was flashing red warning lights though. Beyond daft that he took his final throw with gold already secured.

Preparing for it in case Peters in particular overtook him was one thing. Still taking the throw when still leading was another.

Things are changing, drobbie, Aussie field events here were encouraging and you cannot say that seriously about our GB field events.wow the aussies even had a short hurdler who massively improved. Look separately at our best over the season so far, where are we in sprints long distances long hurdles and the jumps and throws.I think the aussies who have had poor results several years ago are improving and we are going backwards, but then you use the medals with relays thrown in as a slightly misleading basis to compare us to the aussies.

you were going on about not counting gb field medals becasue the events were not up to much but you want to count the aussie ones, facts are we won more medals than the aussies at the olympics, worlds, commonweatlhs and the u20 worlds and the relays count too no matter how many times you want to disregard them

                        • Sarah Inglis must get a special mention too. She really went out with intent in that 5000m and hung on for as long as she could. Went through 3k in well under 9 mins, possibly the first time she’s done that in a 5k. And all that with the 10k in her legs!

I hope she sticks with the track for a while longer as there is untapped potential there. She ran a good marathon not so long ago so she has options.

Yeah, that is definitely the way to do it. No point in lolloping around at the back hoping for a PB,

Compared to 2018, the Aussies won 1 more track medal, 5 fewer field medals and 4 fewer medals total.

Compared to 2018, GBR athletes won 7 more track medals, 3 more field medals and 10 more medals total.

I even excluded GBR relay medals from that (we won 3 here, 2 in 18 fyi).

Please show how a next swing of 6 track medals, 8 field medals and 14 medals total show "Aussies are improving and we are going backwards"?
