Apparently Prescod isn’t in the ENG relay team because he’s Welsh, rather than because he’s injured and not here. 🤬

Reece does sound a bit Welsh!

Yep - he’s obviously mixed up his stats…poor. Also keeps saying the men were wrapping up the morning, when the women were standing there waiting to come out!

A bit earlier the 400m champion was Zimbabwean according to Katherine too.

Did exactly what was needed . No need to take big risks trying to break 38.

Silver for the women behind Nigeria. I thought Jamaica would win even with their B team, but only enough for bronze.

Jamaica were so far behind that I think ETH took the baton just outside Wolverhampton!

AR for Nigeria and close to sub 42 so a silver for England is fair. With no DAS on that there is plenty of time to drop. Anything less than a gold at Euros would be disappointing for the women

So Amusan two golds in one morning session - I suspect not a common occurrence

That's back to back Area Records set by the Nigerian 4x100m squad, after originally breaking it in Eugene with 42.22. Impressive going indeed.

England paid the price of no DAS involvement and having Bianca Williams on 3rd leg instead. Williams has done well to get back into international running after having her baby and a bunch of injuries (as well as other, well documented off-the-track issues) to contend with, but this isn't the runner who ran sub 23 seconds regularly back in 2014. She got cooked on that leg by the Nigerian runner and that's where the chance for gold slipped away.

Perhaps the up and coming European U18 200m gold medallist, Faith Akinbilije, could be a possible future back up. Or, hoping against hope, that Amy Hunt can finally defeat the injury curse and show some of that potential from her teenage years.

Interesting to note, in the WC heats, Asha-Imani-Ashleigh-Daryl ran 41.99. I think that should probably have been the team, but Bianca’s past runs was given the nod over the fact Ashleigh has been quicker over 100m and 200m this season. Quickest of all this season would actually be Jodie over 200m, but tough ask to include her

Huge Chrissy O fan so iit's great getting to see her sister enjoy some success. Lloyd would have been so proud.

Over the moon for Jodie too. Showed the strength and fight that enabled her to get a European indoors medal and run sub 50 twice in Tokyo. Didn't see that happening so I am over the moon for her. Home crowd surely helped.

Great chances for our 4 x 400. Who is running 4th leg? Laviai? I hope Jesie isn't. Really like her but she ain't in great form it would seem. Hope they recover well by tonight!
Laviai is not competing here. Jessie, Hannah Williams or Keely are the options

OK cheers. Not sure who I’d choose from Jessie or Keely. Nit Hannah, too unreliable

Such a shame there wasn’t any heats, as Keely could have shown selectors what she could do and earn her place. On the basis of that, I think they’ll stick with Jessie

I wonder why Ashleigh Nelson wasn’t on third. Quicker than Bianca this season and has run that third leg many times.

So wonder what our top predictors think will be the chances of Pattinson , Laura and one of our long jumpers.

Unlikely, very likely, maybe a bronze.

Would hope to be proven wrong but I think Kinyemal and Bol will have too much for Pattison.

Laura is the class of that field. If she runs her own race and doesn't let others dictate she should get gold.

LJ - you would imagine Brume and Buschkuehl would be fighting for the top step, on season's form.

That being said, results for medalists at the WC who've come here have been mixed. So who knows?

                    Laura should win
LJ is open, a medal for one is possible
Ben who knows? He is the young improver, could do anything, but I struggle to see more than bronze.

                • #43
If (unlikely) it went to a 1.48 type race, Ben or Jamie will be right in there. I’d assume it’s more likely a 1.45 race, and then Ben’s tactics/positioning will be key - he can kick off a fast pace, but if he’s been in and out of positions, maybe not so effectively. His lack of top class races may well hinder him, but let’s see.

Nice big field for the Women's 5000 tonight with 22 athletes. Plenty of Brits competing, Australia have a full team of 3 and the Kenyans & Ugandans 2 each.

World Silver medalist Beatrice Chebet should be the hot favourite for gold. Eilish is definitely a strong medal contender. It's probably in her interest to make it fast (14:45-ish pace maybe) otherwise the other Africans could crowd her out of the medals. In a slower race athletes like Rose Davies also have pretty good wheels at the finish.
