Great finish by Van Der Walt there.

Fair point. Perhaps too far mentally ? - at least for now. He did indeed run pretty fast but might have got his tactics a bit better ? I really don't mean to be critical of him...guess I was just expecting him to win

Rogers seems to be mimicking Nick Millers pattern this morning.

Payne would absolutely have been in with a medal shout on her current form. That she's not here is a travesty.

Well done to Amber Simpson for her pb (which is still only the 7th best by a British woman this year but puts her in bronze medal position here). What a shame England didn't select Lotty Payne to give her a chance here.

If he hadn't had his perfect day in Eugene I think we'd all be really excited by today's bronze

Good news is that we are back to the World Feed tonight, ie the athletics feed that actually shows athletics.

I'm not sure on race too far for Wightman physically - he ran bloody well! He admitted that mentally it was hard to get up for this one.

Couple of surprise results this morning , eh ? Who would have thought Olympic champ Patterson would miss out on gold in the HJ - and at such a modest height ? Lake actually jumped pretty well and might think she ended up missing a big chance in the end. Well done Distin for Jamaica ... and well done Hoare in taking 1500 gold for Australia in a terrific race. Lots of PBs : but looked like a race too many for Wightman - and especially Kerr. Might be a few British athletes needing rest they won't get before the Euros...

I'd like to see Giles take a real run at the 1500. 3.33 after his season is really quite impressive and many 800 runners of his 'type' have stepped up to championship 1500 racing successfully. Obvs, the 1500 is a different event now and gone are the days of last lap burn ups, but I'd like to see him have a crack.

New Zealand and Scotland both have very strong men's 1500 all-time lists relative to their populations.

Even with Wightman having a wild card, the Trials are still likely to be pretty tasty.

The Indians are showing a few signs of the birth of interest in track and field as well as cricket
. Hurrah for that, from a nation of 1300 million it will produce better and better results. A steeplechaser of merit in Sable, who beat our best,Seddon, who was hopeless
Indian results this year are also better than we have in the LJ, javelin, and TJ.Its just a beginning of course, but it's a start
