Weird thing happening in the men’s & women’s 200m. Because the major nations like Jamaica (ETH apart), Nigeria & England are scorning them, the “smaller” nations are delighted to snap up places. Pakistan win a heat!

Mind you, I remember late in her career Sonia O'Sullivan stayed competing for Ireland in most competitions but was allowed to be Australian for the Commonwealths.

I think WA's rules may have changed since Sonia's day.

Looked it up on wiki. She had to get special permission to do it, and in the event it did not happen due to injury.

Samoan can have no complaints about his 200m DQF there!

Heat win for Gemili but he doesn't look super fluid on the home straight. Last 100m from Hughes was *waaay* better.

Hopefully a bit of a confidence booster.

Incidentally, news is that NMB was another cramp victim, so didn’t want to force it last night.

Have to start wondering why this is happening so much though. Fluids, salts?

Lots of travel in a short space of time won’t help - straight back to max velocity

If Gemili gets a good semi draw and the best of the winds he might make the final, if the fitness/health issues stay away.

Would not want to write that many ifs into an Excel =IF() formula.

Will AG manage a 20.15 in this event. Who knows?

Every athlete has a reason for not performing at their best; funny, but the best of the best usually dont seem to suffer endless cramps, injuries, illness etc etc. The trick for the very best is to be fit when it counts .Easier said than done.

A shame. You wonder if there is a major underlying issue...

Lina Nielsen tailed off to last place in her 400mh semi. Sad to see.

I wonder if she opened up about her health because she is currently suffering a flare up?

Even if she isn't, her reaction during the announcements looked like someone who was rather overwhelmed with everything right now, and entirely understandably so.

Jessie Knight just about hangs on.

A personal victory of sorts for Lina. Jessie Knight frankly as poor as ever on the big stage.

Never understood Knights poor showing when it counts, but she will be selected till the selectors wake up

Yeah, she started like a rocket with a great upset win over Justyne Swiety indoors, but not much since.

She's still almost a second clear of Nielsen on SBs and 1.5 seconds ahead of everyone else. Whilst she's disappointed at the champs, it's not like there's someone else she's keeping out of the team. Also, she contributed to the 4x4 bronze in Eugene, so not a complete write off.
