And Sophie makes it to the final.

Success Eduan just didn't look at her best in either of today's runs.

To be honest, Eduan didn't look right since her 23.30 PB in Loughborough in May. In Mannheim, in perfect weather conditions for fast times, she ran 23.5-ish and didn't have the pop she had in Loughborough. And it was the same here.

Switzerland win the draw for the last women's 4x100 spot over the Czech Republic.

Meadowspeak is epically awful tonight. Either dyslexic or doing it deliberately and giving her critics 2 fingers. Probably the former

I heard Jenny commentating on the Shot the other day, and to be fair it was no worse than Backley.

50.95 pb for Okoh, which moves him into the top 10 British all time u20. Not good enough for the final, but he has performed well here.

I'm not sure whether any other British 17 year old has run that fast.

trickstat Correct. Nobody else on the list is younger than Okoh is. The closest is Jacob Paul, who was 18 when he ran 50.71 on his way to European U20 bronze in Rieti 2013.

Wouldn't be surprised if Sam Lunt goes faster next year

In a final with 6 Commonwealth athletes and no Americans. That's a good sign.

Great run again by John. Closer than the semis suggested it could be, but she never looked in too much danger. Bring on the relay!

Well, that one was a shock. Afrifah of Israel beats Tebogo in 19.96.

Big shock, but Afrifah looked easy in the heats. Quainoo may be disappointed with that. Bronze was there for the taking.

Shock in the men's 200m final.... Afrifa of Israel has won the gold medal! And he's shattered the European junior record of 20.04 from Ramil Guliyev, when he was still running for his native Azerbaijan too! 19.96! A new Championship record too!

Jeriel Quainoo finished in 7th place in 20.73.

I was just checking that too. Neither Azebaijan or Israel fall within the traditional geographical boundaries of Europe!

I think Azerbaijan makes it in as an ex Soviet Republic, And Israel for political reasons,

Is my memory correct. Did we have a 400m womens U20 gold in the past who did not go onto better things in the Seniors.
Strong determined performance but I am quite surprised by her rather chunky physiognomy.

I think you mean Sabrina Bakare, who won the World Youths, before injury

No, I think your memory is failing you.
I think you mean 'appearance' rather than 'physiognomy', which has a specific meaning. And that is not true; look at some photos of her again. She is on the short side, but very lean and slim.
Many are surprised by your punky psychology.

Replying to that idiot is usually a waste of time, hence why I've blocked them.

And no Marylimpid, your memory is as faulty as your attitude. GB have never had a World U20 champion for the women in the history of the championships, so 35 years. I thought a miserable old sod like yourself who pines constantly for the good old days would at least remember correctly.

To be fair, he is talking about Sabrina Bakare, who won the World Youths in 2013 in 52.77 and was never able to better that, unfortunately.

Yemi is off to Texas next year. I'd prefer she not to end up in the NCAAs but Texas have a good 400m programme and in Rhasidat Adeleke an athlete from the British Isles who is succeeding there at the moment, so we can be hopeful.

MysteryBrick Then perhaps he should mention that it was Sabrina Bakare and it was the World Youths in 2013, rather than the U20s? Also, unlike Bakare, Yemi Mary John had shown prior form with her silver medal at last year's European U20s, whereas Bakare came out of nowhere to become the top U18 in 2013, then virtually disappeared soon there after.

As for Mary John heading to Texas, I too have my misgivings about some of our junior athletes going Stateside to study and compete athletically (Molly Caudery's disastrous time there being a case in point), but as you say, Adeleke is going gangbusters since going there to study and Texas is world renown for it's 400m coaching set up.
