Utterly bizarre decision from Moraa to try the double... pretty embarrassing.

Did the Kenyan federation actually ask her if she wanted to do the double? I wonder if there was another Kenyan woman who could have done the 400 instead.

It's weird that the Women's 800 final isn't until Saturday - 4 days after the semis.

It was supposed to be heats yesterday, semi finals on Thu and final on saturday but with the number of competitors they dropped the semi finals.

Could have been an admin error by the Kenyan Fed? Although they only entered Korir for the 400m presumably at his request (he has said in a couple of interviews that he wanted to do 800 at worlds and 400 in Brum so it's consistent with that).

By my calculations, KJT is pretty much a lock for gold now, while actually O'Connor's good 800m means it is a good battle with O'Dowda for silver and bronze - O'Dowda loses 6m on the javelin which is about 120 points and would leave a 2 second gap for the 800m, so we could have a barnburner!

I am not fully hopeful that the semis of the 100m and then the 10K will be shown live this evening on bbc 1.All the swimming to show.
It occurs that the Euros in a couple of weeks has track and field, swimming, rowing, gymnastics at least so I suspect a repeat of this bbc struggle.

Hopefully for the European Championships they'll have all the world feeds on the iPlayer like they have here. That will depend on their contract with the European Broadcasting Union though.

I think the Beeb will show the Women's 10,000 live, likely with pre-race Eilish montages thrown in and a healthy (?) dose of unrealistic discussion about her gold medal chances!

More broadly though, never underestimate the ability of runners to be stupid - that was ripe for someone to take it out in 51 and easily qualify on time a la Rowden at the Worlds...

Well nearly agree. Pattison is 20 years and in his first biggievso a great runner, not yet. We will see if he knows how to handle the 800m final at the week end.

I'll be watching the European Championships on the eurovision sports tv channel, which has dedicated streams for all the sports. And no silky smooth gabfest, although there may be Meadowsspeak :-)

Yes, she is commentating for the World Juniors in Cali this week, which I am sandwiching in between Birmingham morning and evening sessions. Men's 400m heats in Birmingham are on iplayer atm.
