Better second round for KJT there. Likely secures the Gold, while Mills will need to go some for bronze after the Crace PB, while huge from O'Dowda!

The cancel culture invocation made me chuckle... as someone who works in tech, I guarantee this is a software bug not anything more insidious, marilyn, although I understand the allure of seeking sinister reasoning behind things one doesn't understand

Did the Kenyan federation actually ask her if she wanted to do the double? I wonder if there was another Kenyan woman who could have done the 400 instead.

It's weird that the Women's 800 final isn't until Saturday - 4 days after the semis.

It was supposed to be heats yesterday, semi finals on Thu and final on saturday but with the number of competitors they dropped the semi finals.

Could have been an admin error by the Kenyan Fed? Although they only entered Korir for the 400m presumably at his request (he has said in a couple of interviews that he wanted to do 800 at worlds and 400 in Brum so it's consistent with that).

By my calculations, KJT is pretty much a lock for gold now, while actually O'Connor's good 800m means it is a good battle with O'Dowda for silver and bronze - O'Dowda loses 6m on the javelin which is about 120 points and would leave a 2 second gap for the 800m, so we could have a barnburner!

Ignore that, KJT could also be close! We should have a proper live 800m this evening.

It occurs that the Euros in a couple of weeks has track and field, swimming, rowing, gymnastics at least so I suspect a repeat of this bbc struggle.
Hopefully for the European Championships they'll have all the world feeds on the iPlayer like they have here. That will depend on their contract with the European Broadcasting Union though.

I think the Beeb will show the Women's 10,000 live, likely with pre-race Eilish montages thrown in and a healthy (?) dose of unrealistic discussion about her gold medal chances!

Maybe the fact that depth is so good nationally means our runners are actually getting better tactically...?

Because that was *not* a bad field - Ngeny and Tshite are both 1:44 men this year. No way they should make the final on time.

I’m sure the BBC will prioritise athletics over swimming unless there are nailed-on swimming golds.

Looks like a 2nd Kenyan is out of the reckoning for a final place too.

            Pattison looked good there.
I seem to ask this everywhere, but what's the deal with Dustin?

Knew Pattison was going to do well there. He's a great runner in great form.

More broadly though, never underestimate the ability of runners to be stupid - that was ripe for someone to take it out in 51 and easily qualify on time a la Rowden at the Worlds...

Re Dustin, he's been ill all season.

Gosh, that sounds awful for him.

Max Burgin is watching all this in the USA, cursing his body yet again for betraying him at precisely the wrong time. He would have been the favourite here.

Yes, given others [Rowden, Giles] aren't here in the 800 -it does highlight the current depth. I am surprised for the CGs a couple of the peripheral names in the event didn't go looking for some Welsh ancestory ...

Well nearly agree. Pattison is 20 years and in his first biggievso a great runner, not yet. We will see if he knows how to handle the 800m final at the week end.

I'll be watching the European Championships on the eurovision sports tv channel, which has dedicated streams for all the sports. And no silky smooth gabfest, although there may be Meadowsspeak :-)

Yes, same here if the iPlayer isn't showing the international feeds. I think it will be Jenny-free though - I'm pretty sure she only does World Athetics events.

I'm guessing it will be Phil Minshull and Alex (from Vinco Sport) on Eurovision again? Not great but at least we'll see it all live. Maybe Peter Matthews as well?

I believe Peter Matthews has retired.

Yes, she is commentating for the World Juniors in Cali this week, which I am sandwiching in between Birmingham morning and evening sessions. Men's 400m heats in Birmingham are on iplayer atm.
