one of the big reasons I love the CWG is because for sports like Athletics, Swimming, cycling its the only time the home nations compete separately. Guernsey have our best male 400 hurdler is a great thing to see for example.

Of all the countries to pick up their first ever medal in Birmingham, I wouldn't have picked Niue in the top 10 most likley candidates, but the tiny island, population less than many villages, grabbed a bronze in the boxing. Well done them!Leave a comment:

Enjoyed the athletics but inevitable comparisons with the World Championships the week before. The same will apply to the European Championships.Leave a comment:

It’s been a strange one, but I’ve watched very little outside the athletics and some of that was a bit half heartedly. Maybe it’s just that there’s so much sport on this summer that it’s just felt a step too far…certainly as far as Mrs Ursus is concerned.Last edited by Ursus; 08-08-22, 20:28.Leave a comment:

A solid final day today. Another good day for diving for the home nations, as well as medals in squash, badmington, table tennis and a bronze in men's hockey.
All in all a fun Games. I unashamedly love the CGs. It's not perfect for a variety of reasons but it still has the "sports for sport's sake" attitude that I think the Olympics has lost in recent years. There's something great about seeing Nuie winning medals at international meets, or a PNG runner being cheered out of the stadium despite finishing minutes after everyone else. Yes, we want to see the very best but we surely also want to see people trying their best as well, especially if we want to encourage them and to inspire others?👍 3Leave a comment:

I didn’t realise the Games were going onto tomorrow - I don’t remember a Champs ever going onto a Monday….not sure why, or whether it’s best for TV viewing etc.
I’m also interested to see total viewing figures and compare them to the Women’s Euros…I’m wondering if having the CWG running concurrently has effectively wiped out the euphoria…the hype from the final has dropped off quickly, because good news stories / wins from the CWG have replaced football news, along with the Premier League starting and taking football headlinesLeave a comment:

3x3 basketball did on both sides I think. But Men's hockey and netball lost to them in the SF, both rugby teams were way behind them and the cricketers never got a chance to lose to them.
In fairness, we weren't really favoured to beat them in most of those sports. But still frustrating to keep coming out on the wrong side. We've just never really closed the gap they opened up in the pool. -
Final day - it's been great!

Think that’s the only one of all our team sports to beat the Aussies. So not brilliant overall. -
A great hockey gold for England's women, holding on despite a late scare for a 2-1 win over the Aussies.Leave a comment:

Aaron Gate wins a cracking men's road race. The more endurance style riders just couldn't shake him and Daryl Impey and, when it came to a sprint, the pair of them were always favourites.
England will look back and wonder what could have been. They had the numbers to get a medal but probably got their tactics wrong in the last 5km.Leave a comment:

Ditto for the Netball team which persistently went to sleep mid-game against the big teams, gave away big leads they couldn’t get back with last quarter pushes. -
England's women got pretty roundly thrashed by NZ in the bronze medal match at Edgbaston.
Scotland having a good morning at the boxing, securing 2 golds.Leave a comment:

England’s hockey men need to work on their short corners…about 15 with nothing to show for them. Lost their heads a little towards the end, but should be good for the bronze.Leave a comment:
