  • Dina Asher - Smith

I think Dina Asher -Smith deserves a thread of her own... I did look but it seems one doesn't already exist [surprising].

A thoroughly deserved bronze model. There have been lots of ups and downs in recent times for this athlete, but DAS continues to come across as a woman of great intelligence, grace and determination.

Some commentators felt her 200 victory in the last world championships was a case of last woman standing [you can only beat who turns up]. This bronze may well be seen by the wider commentariat as a greater achievement. It certainly makes up for the 4th in the 100.

I hope she is not 'knackered' as her plans to run at both the CGs and Euros will certainly test her. I am being a little lazy and not checking her schedule, or that of the Jamaicans in Birmingham, but it seems more likely if she is still fit and healthy that a gold will come at the Euros.

I am not sure if breaking either of her 100/200 British records is possible this year, or indeed necessary, for the British public to appreciate we have a national treasure in, as I like to call her, DASHER.

I hope post-athletics there is a career beyond appearing in yoghurt commercials, as she is the embodiment of a strong, modern British female who can inspire generations to come.

Aside from her athletic prowess, she is an intelligent, eloquent and personable young woman - I’m sure there will be opportunities.

yes but I hope not limited to sitting on a panel of former 'world champions' at 3 am in the morning.

Her having a degree in History is quite interesting and fairly unusual. However, it's not as if all our top athletes with degrees have them in sports subjects. Seb Coe's was in Economics, Paula Radcliffe's in Modern Languages and Christine Ohuruogu's in Linguistics while semi-forgotten sprinter Chris Lambert did Fine Art at Harvard.

She got a first in history no less, while juggling studies, a profession running career and media commitments. A very capable young woman

What's wrong with yogurt commercials!? Josh Kerr seemed to have a down on those too. But yogurt is good stuff - certainly better than land-mines, say, if you're going to sell something.

Dasher did say that she'd be willing to get into running world athletics after she retired.
Maybe she could broker a peace between Thompson-Herah and Fraser-Pryce...

She's good but she's not that good! Not even Henry Kissinger could manage that.

She's only down for the 100m at Brum, as well as (presumably) the final of the 4x100m.

Interestingly SAFP is skipping Brum it seems. I thought she was initially down to take part but she's not on the entries. ETH and Jackson both are doubling.

I'm guessing but I'd presume Dina does the opposite in Euros - 200m and relay. Outside of Kambunji she doesn't really have any competition there.

I thought SAFP confirmed at Eugene that she was coming g to Birmingham. The 100m is shaping up to be a repeat of Eugene.

As I said, she was announced as being in Brum in the initial team selection but she's not on the entry list on the Brum results website that went live this week - https://results.birmingham2022.com/#/general-entries

I suspect DAS will want to defend both her 100m and 200m titles in Munich.

Yes , would think so , as long as she isn't totally exhausted by then. Doing just the one event in Birmingham so seems to be the plan to keep some petrol for Munich.

Looking forward to the women''s 100m in Munich. DAS, DN and Imani Lansiquot straight into the semi-finals on Tuesday. DAS should be the warm favourite, depending on whether her WC injury has had any impact. If so, Kambundji is in great form. DN in line for a minor medal if she can stay relaxed in the final.

Kambundji is consistently fast, never runs a bad race and is the most likely winner should Dina falter as you say, but I can't shake the feeling Daryll is the one who'll one day rip something really bloody fast. Her 10.90 in Brum was poetry.

Monaco provided perfect conditions for sprinters and SAFP MJTL and SJ stepped up to the plate with SBs PBs and in Tal Lou's case an African Record. DN ran a 10.91 but was well beaten by the athletes ahead of her. Until DN can address her poor first 30/40m, I can't see her challenging at the highest level.
