We've all been spoilt by the World Championships! Looking forward to seeing how Omanyala performs in the 100m. He shouldn't lack motivation after the visa debacle in the USA.

Watching a little bit of the opening ceremony. One of the flag carriers was 2010 Commonwealth Games high jump champion Nicole Forrester who must hold a distinction of sorts having won with 1.91, below her body height of 1.92.

Not yet confirmed, but sources are saying that Shericka Jackson is being withdrawn from the Commonwealth Games and will instead take part in the Diamond League (possibly the meeting in Silesia on 6 August?). Apparently the Jamaican Team aren't aware of this yet! Big blow given that SAFP isn't attending and DAS has withdrawn.

Diamond League site stating that SJ and SAFP will be at the Silesia meeting. Their absence from Birmingham will help DN who is competing in the 100m and 209m.

I'm kind of nervous about how few athletes will start the marathons tomorrow. I don't want it to be embarrassing. It was a good idea to put them all on the same day at least.

maybe the 'friendly' games missed an opportunity ... the 'elite' race embedded in a 'London marathon' style mass participation ... but no one listens to my ideas.

That’s a great call - what an experience for those taking part, and would have ensured high viewing figures!

That would have been a brilliant idea.

            There's 21 athletes entered for the Men's and 19 for the Women's.

By comparison at the Gold Coast 2018 there were 25 starters in the Men's and 17 in the Women's.

carterhatch's idea is a good one. Perhaps Birmingham City Council wanted to minimise road closures though? A compromise could have been to limit the mass participation to men who've run sub-3 and women who've run sub-3:20.

Is DN in the 100? I read she was only running the 200. If so, she'll be gutted, 100 looks very winnable now.

DN is still down for the 100m as well on the official site, although take that with a pinch of salt as DAS and Jackson are as well.

Still, she'll have ETH ahead of her - wouldn't hang the gold around Daryl's neck just yet!

ETH is also doubtful apparently due to fitness problems.

Adelle Tracey not allowed, the Commonwealths authorities think her change of allegiance was too late.https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/commonwealth-games/62340043

Reece Prescod out, Ojie Edoburun in - injury…presumably he’ll be OK for the Euros

Hmm, I wonder if his largely unimpressive Worlds were due to some underlying issue.

He seemed ok in the relay though?

I am quite surprised that there were expectations that the top jamaicans and a few top commonwealth athletes would compete in the CG.
Two nice rewarding DL meetings with points for the finals in September.

Everybody keeping their options open, but it was never realistic that many stars would do the CG.

That may be just an admin straight swap? Not sure where he’d go, unless it was JE-ZH-NMB-OE…I don’t think NMB enjoys the bend, but did so for RP. If Gemili’s head is right, I’d assume he’s in

He might be in the relay squad, doesn’t necessarily mean he runs. I mean, have you seen the size of the relay squads for the Euros?

And if he does run most likely it would just be in the heat.

Jamaican Team manager has confirmed Shericka Jackson has withdrawn from CG 100m, 200m and 4×100 relay and Natasha Morrison from the 4×100m relay. Stephenie Anne McPherson has withdrawn from the 400m and 4×400m relay. Source: Jamaica Radio Online.

Can't really blame her after all that effort she put out in Eugene. The medal prospects continue to improve for Daryl Neita....

Also the news of McPherson not being in the 400m or 4x4 could have some implications for the home nations performers as well.

SMc wasn’t up to par in Eugene, so makes sense

The Jamaicans are running out of runners for their women's 4x100 relay team.

And though ETH is still there and did medal in the 100m in Eugene, she didn't look great in the 200m, and there have been some mentions of some fitness issues for her as well. If *she* pulled out too, then that 4x100m team would be in some real trouble.

Holly B confirmed on twitter that she plans to be on the start line to vault but that she isn't 100% fit (I'm paraphrasing here).

I get some of the Jamaicans pulling out. Surprised Briana Williams didn't stick her hand up for this. It would seem a great opportunity for her and she only ran in the relay heat in Oregon
