She becomes the 3rd Brit to run under the WC standard (15:10.00), joining Jess Judd and Thackery. (Technically the 4th as Elish McColgan ran 15:00.75 at the 5K mark of that outstanding 10,000m Scottish record last week).
In that same Portland Track Festival meeting, Patrick Dever ran a 13:20.12 SB over 5000m, another time under both the European and Commonwealth selection standards, but still 7 seconds shy of the WC one.

Later, World Indoor 3000m bronze medallist Marc Scott, still searching for the form that not only won him that bronze, but also propelled him to a European indoor 5000m record, ran 13:22.15 for a 2nd place finish, in his first outing over the distance this outdoor season. Another European and Commonwealth Games qualifying time.

Good start! A WC standard in the first race of the season.

His quickest ever opening 200m time to boot. Pleasing to see and good to get the Worlds qualifier done, one doesn't want to rely on the Manchester Weather to co-operate on trials weekend.

      • From Sollentuna:

Ben Pattison 1.45.16 pb and the win; Danny Rowden just pushed into third in 1.45.84.

52.58 pb for Lily Beckford in the 400.

Abigail Irozuru continues to struggle to regain her best form with a best of 6.15.

Really impressive once again from Pattison - Well clear of 2nd and looking strong.

Knew Pattison was going to run something big this year. Won't be fun to race against him at UK Champs!

        • Why has p of 10 no record of an alleged 20.15 by Gemili and shows only some windy 100m runs in his 2022 bio of
          performances to date.

        • Pattison has not run anything "big "this year. His best so far is nothing special. Big is low to mid 1.44s and last year we had six 1.44s by the end of the season

          • Pattison not yet in the top 20. Fact. Shows some promise.

            • I am a big fan of Gemili as a person [ I can see a bright media future] but wasn't expecting to see anything like that 200m time, ever again ... I really hope that he can back that up, if not a little faster.

Find myself, unusually, in agreement with 'Phillipo' that while Pattison's time is comendable, 'impressive' is, for me, mid to low 44s, and after the astonishing roll-call of these sort of times from last year, I am hoping that they will arrive, though I doubt at 'trials', but at the big three events this summer.

Burgin is the one who might achieve exceptional, Rowden, I hope is just timing his peak, Giles seems to be recovering from illness/injury/late nights of fatherhood, and Dustin is a long way off...

Burgin has the talent, if only he can stave off injuries, and that’s a big if.

Pattison falls into the category of Improving Young Athlete rather than there yet, but promise and improvement is worth noting.

Rowden has not looked as good to me this year - so far anyway.

            • Well done Gemili. Personally I’m doubtful whether he has the top end speed to really mix it at a global level any more but you never know.

For those who like adjusting apparently it was in to a -0.5.

              • Fuelling the flames of the Ben Pattison debate. What I like about Ben is he has an excellent kick and a good racing brain. You don't finish 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 1st and 1st in your first six outings over 800 / 1000m of the season against decentish fields without having something going for you. As a point of comparison Jamie Webb for his first 5 800's of the year not including heats was 4th, 5th, 9th, 5th & 8th. His agegroup progression is not to shabby either with two 4th's and a silver at the european level. He will be still an U23 next year and hopefully can progress further timewise. He is not the finished article yet. One blot to his copybook was being beaten by Kyle Langford at Manchester recently so there is still room for improvement. I think semis at the worlds and finals for the commonwealths and europeans would be a good target for this year.

Exactly - what I like about Pattison is he is almost always top 2, meaning he puts himself in the right places in races. I strongly suspect that in a race won in low-1:44s he would run 1:44, although of course we will hopefully find out.

              • Out of the 1-2-3 that completed that GB clean sweep in the 800m final of the 2019 European U20s, Ben Pattison seems to have been the most consistent in terms of his development in the 3 years since that race. Dustin showed flashes of brilliance last year, especially with that 1:43 in Marseille, but his poor heat run in Tokyo, plus his rather ropey start to this season seem to suggest he's had some fitness issues during the winter. As for Finley McLear, the bronze medallist who literally flailed over the line in Boras, ran his PB of 1:45.80 when coming 4th in last year's NCAA Championships and he was a medal contender along with Pattison at the European U23s, though would likely have been disappointed to come 6th. This year however, McLear has only managed a best of 1:49.59 and he's looking distinctly out of form, if the 9th place, 1:51 in Manchester, was any indication.

My dream is to see all three battling it out for the top spots at the British Championships, but on current form, I think only Pattison will be the one near the front of that race.

The third this year. McColgan & Markovc already have the standard from July last year (in Oslo & Tokyo respectively).

Anyway, well done Sarah Inglis. Making her track PBs respectable after her 31:39 at Highgate last month.

Ah, didn't realise Markovc had the standard!

                • There's loads of Brits in action tomorrow & Wednesday at the meetings in Turku (Gold meeting), Kladno, Celle Ligure (ITA), Marseille & Košice and I expect also in Bern, though the startlists aren't out yet for that one.
