Well done Lizzie Bird and also Chiara Scherrer (SUI) taking 1.4s off Fabienne Schlumpf's NR with 9:20.28.

At that 800 in Pfungstadt (GER) today, there were big PBs behind Langford & Gourley too, suggesting it may have been perfect conditions:

3 Kessler (GER) 1:45.27 (0.84s PB)
4 James Preston (NZL) 1:45.30 (not such a big PB - by 0.07s)
5 Jye Perrot (AUS) 1:45.61 PB (1.32s PB)

Dustin was due to run but was a DNS.

DNA has become quite a fashion statement. An injury or saving it for the Trials??

POT says Dustin came 7th in 1.51, which is about how he's been running this year, inviting speculation as to why.

I think the 1.51 was from a BMC race in May. It says his time yesterday was a dismal 1.55. His 1.43 from Nice last year now looks like a *big* outlier - his lifetime best after that is 1.45 from last year's trials.

Who knows what's wrong - Covid over the winter? Injury? Lack of preparation/commitment?

Ha, I didn't look that far down the consolidated results of the different sections, not imagining that he could have run 1:55 ! But, yes, there he is, slower than the winner of the 'H' race!

All nice stats, as usual Marra .. But I still consider him inconsistent. His Brit record was fine if there were no false start rule. The best in Europe means nowt as far as I am concerned these days. When it counts,its in a few weeks or maybe at the CG. Then we will see.

I mean you can consider him inconsistent, if you want. That's your call. I'd argue that any lack of consistency is down to fitness/injuries leading to DNFs though, rather that a lack of speed on the track.

He's represented GB at 6 champs in the ind 400m. He got a DQ for lane infringement at one (2018 CG), an DNF at another (2019 WC) and then the other 4 (Rio, 2014 EC, 2017 WC, 2018 EC) he got times in each between 44.48 and 44.78. Which all seems pretty consistent to me, at least in terms of time.

As for the record, I pointed out above that he's still 4 in Commonwealth and 11 in world WITHOUT that run counting. With the Eugene run counted, he moves to 3rd and 9th respectively. So what he did in the Eugene race does little to impact his rankings.

And being the best in Europe might mean nowt to you, but I rather suspect that it does to the athletes.


I mean, we're not talking about a World or Olympic medal favourite here. Success for him is making a final at the Globals, and the podium at CG or EC. That's where he is at. And there's no shame in that. But that doesn't mean we should misrepresent what his record is. He's consistently in the mid to high 44s and that makes him a top 5 GB 400m runner of all time.

Izzy Fry fresh from a 6th place finish at the UK Trials nabs a handy 17 second PB and euro qualifier at 15.21.32. That moves her up to 6th fastest for the year and overtakes Eloise Walker as fastest U23.

Prescod in the qualifying period has only once ran the legal time for Eugene. His starts are better, but only in Ostrava has he produced the fearsome finish that was becoming his trademark in 2017-18. His race with Jacobs in Stockholm will tell us more about his WC chances than Manchester.

Prescod came 2nd in the Stockholm DL 100m, 10.15 (-0.5m/s) unable to comeback against Simbine's great start which resulted in a 10.02 SB for the South African.

I don't think it was not great, I think it was a fairly average performance for Hodgkinson and Moraa is clearly a huge huge talent. Kick up the backside is the right term.
