(Occasional Hope) Euro u18 quals and significant PBs in the 1500 for Tendai Nyabadza (3.47.86, prev best 3.52) and u17 Jess Bailey (4.22.71, down from 4.26), per Ian Hodge.
Also at the BMC Grand Prix in Manchester on Saturday, 16 year old Corey Campbell, winner of the Scottish Schools indoors in February, ran 3:48.49 in the 1500m B race, a nearly 4 second PB and also well under the EU18 qualifying standard. Campbell also has the 3000m EU18 Q standard after his 8:17.90 run in April, a 12 second PB.

In that same 1500m that Bailey ran in, Iris Downes also went under the 4:26.00 qualifying requirement with a 4:23.02 PB in 3rd place, a 7 second improvement on her previous best from last year. Downes also has the 800m standard from earlier in the month. In fact, her last 3 800m runs have all been under the EU18 standard.

That's a good throw from Delaney. It moves him up to just outside the current top 20 in this year's European U20 rankings. He's not that far short of the WU20 Q standard of 18.50m currently, which is pretty impressive for a 17 year old. Incidentally, Delaney already has the EU18 standard (18.15m) with the 5kg implement after a massive 19.42m effort in April, which ranks him fourth among EU18s this year, as well as being right up there as one of the best shot puts by a British athlete in that age group.

From Ian Hodge's Twitter, he reports that Cleo Ageypong, 17, has thrown the Euro U18 standard (15.50m) in the shot put, with throws of 16.11m and 16.46m. That's a nearly 80cm improvement from her previous best last year with the 3kg implement. With that latter throw, Ageypong rises from 26th up to 5th on the EU18 rankings this year.
She also has thrown the 4kg U20 implement 14.38m, approaching the 15.10m requirement to qualify for the World U20s.

Zara Obamakinwa, 18, who has been threatening the WU20 Q standard of 50.00m in the discus, has achieved that aim today with a 50.19m effort today. She qualified for last year's European U20s, going out in the qualifying rounds, and also has a PB of 51.69m from the Covid-affected 2020 season, which would have got her into the World U20s at just 16 years old, had the event not been cancelled.
Meanwhile in the U18 men's hammer, Kai Barham, who doesn't turn 17 until November, has managed to achieve the EU18 standard (70.00m) with a 71.39m throw, an almost 3m PB. That effort puts him inside the top 10 amongst EU18s this year.Comment

Getting some news from Ian Hodge that Nia Wedderburn-Goodison, who already has the EU18 100m standard after an early season 11.62 (and is just 2/100ths away from the World U20 standard), returned to action from injury with a 11.38 100m that was aided by a +3.8m/s wind.Comment

Also from Ian Hodge, he reports that Sam Reardon, such an integral part of both the U20s (outdoors) and senior (indoors) 4x400m relay squads, has run a big 400m PB of 46.69, just outside the 46.50 WU20 Q standard. A good return to form after a couple of lacklustre appearances in the 800m last month.Last edited by RunUnlimited; 19-09-22, 19:33.Comment

Onyeka Okoh, who won silver in the U17 age group 400m hurdles at the English Schools last year, ran 51.31 earlier today, his 3rd PB in 3 consecutive races and his 5th overall this year. He edges closer to the WU20 Q time of 51.30, and at this rate, I wouldn't bet against him getting it in the next couple of weeks.Comment

The BMC PB Classic held in Milton Keynes in the middle of the Jubilee celebrations on June 4th, 16 year old Jess Bailey, who has already been mentioned on this thread having attained the EU18 qualifying standard for 1500m in May, ran a 9:19.12 PB over 3000m, further consolidating her position at the top of the European U18 rankings this season, having already achieved the standard (9:38.0) with a 9:19.91 time on May 11th.
A day earlier, Giffnock North athlete Hannah Ryding, 17, also gained the EU18 standard with a 9:28.09 time - her first 3000m race on the track since 2018, and a PB by more than a minute.Comment

Ian Hodge reported that 18 yo Jeriel Quainoo not only finally got the u20 qualifying time for 100 yesterday, he also lowered his 200 time from 21.37 to 20.65, also a world u20 qualifier.Comment

In the main women's 100m final, behind Del Ponte, Frey and an improved Kristal Awuah (11.27), 17 year old Nia Wedderburn Goodison ran 11.32, however it was just over the legal wind limit at 2.4m/s, otherwise that would have been a huge PB and a WU20 qualifying standard... as well as getting close to the European Champs Q standard tooComment
