Hmm, not the best of starts for GB athletes in Puerto Rico. Gemili very slow to react to the gun and jogged in for 12.57. Then Hughes was DQ'd for a blatant FS.

Think we may have missed Lina Neilsen in the 400H. The hurdles were on the track but ESPN were chatting to Sandi Morris instead!

Rest of the Brits in Ponce ...

Good win for Adelle Tracey, 4:05.96 just a few tenths outside her new PB. Allie Wilson (USA) 2nd in 4:06.37 PB.

55.28 for 4th for Lina Nielsen, behind Janieve Russell, 54.09.

MHS dropped out of the 300 after 100m. No obvious injury.

Hughes is practising his false starts in case he is selected for the WC. I have said it before, I see nothing much from Gemiĺi this year. The ponce meet is apparently run by 10 year olds judging by the officials. Nielsen was way behind Russell in 55 plus. Russell won in 54.09.

22.37 is a decent time for her first 200 of the year, but Dina was well beaten there.

I'd describe that as a solid opener for DAS. Needs some more races and to stay fit.

To be fair, only Dina herself and Kathy Cook among British women have ever run faster than that. It's just that it's a really competitive event at the moment.

Gabby Thomas has been doing all the big YouTube races for the last month, so well into her season.

In Dinas 2019 year ,she had her first 200m in mid May and won in 22.26, with 1.1 tail wind. Not much different today. It will be tougher this year though than in 2019.

Worth remembering Dina doesn’t have to peak before Oregon. The US and Jam Trials will be tough and require athletes to be in top form much earlier

Just watched Dina's race just now.... and she did fine. 1/100th slower than her faster ever season opener in the 200m is hardly a reason for panic. If she was running these times in 2 months time, then would be the time to worry.

She seems fit, healthy and ready to defend her title in Oregon. A slightly ring-rusty 22.36 whilst running against athletes who have been running at Continental Gold level races since April this year, is a pretty good return all told.

In my experience, athletes who have just started racing at the start of a season almost always tend to fade in the last quarter of the race when racing at their specialist distance and that's pretty much what happened with Dina here. Also, Thomas and Jackson both have quite a pedigree at distances longer than 200m so they will tend to maintain their speed well at the end of the race.

Away from Doha, Ian Hodge reports that Bayley Campbell, the younger brother of currently injured Taylor who will miss the whole 2022 season, has set a new hammer PB and English CWG qualifying 70.15m today! That makes it 8 British men who have thrown the hammer beyond 70m so far this year.

Charles Hicks retained his PAC-12 10,000m title, running 28:11.15 and managing to hold off the challenge of 3:55 miler Kieran Lumb (Washington & Canada) with an approx 57s last lap.

I've covered the Women's race in the 2022 Outdoors thread.

Ian Hodge coming up with the goods again, with overnight news that improving shot putter Divine Oladipo, who finished 4th in the 2019 EU23 Championships, has come agonizingly close to breaking the 18 meter barrier, with a new overall PB of 17.97m.

She needs another 23cm to attain the EC qualifying distance of 18.20m and who is to say that she can't challenge for the WC standard of 18.50m later this season.

Incidentally, Sophie McKinna will be competing at the Norfolk Championships today... Perhaps this news will be the motivation she needs to push towards breaking 19m...

Good progress. Ian also reported that Tara Simpson Sullivan set another pb in the hammer, 69.39.

I wonder if Sophie McKinna is going to be trying out the rotational technique again. Not sure whether that was just a bit of fun in training or whether there’s a view to a permanent switch in technique, but the Norfolk county champs would be another good comp to try it out
