Nicholas Percy has set his second Scottish discus record today with a 64.35m effort. Still a metre and a half from the 66m WC standard, but he is now within striking distance of the 65.20m EC qualifying standard, and it further consolidates his place on team Scotland's CWG squad.Comment

Double for Prescod in Limassol. 10.25 (-0.2), 20.55 (-0.3). Two season's bests against very ordinary competition. He'll have to step it up, and soon.Comment

For sure he will have to improve quite a bit if he is going to challenge for medals but I think he will be quite happy with that performance. He improved from 10.38 to 10.25 and 20.69 to 20.55 in a fortnight. He is well on course to get down to his best (9.94) come the worlds which would at least get him into the final. He has had a bit of stick on here over his lockdown antics but a bit like Matthew Hudson-Smith if he comes good he could end up surprising a few people.Last edited by Loop-guru; 10-05-22, 23:36.

Very encouraging. Next stop is 65m which is a pretty big landmark on planet discus.
He was also a decent hammer thrower with a 67.85 PB dating back to 2016 when he was 21. Not hammered since 2018, not sure whether that’s through specialisation or injury.Comment

Meanwhile at the long jump pit of that same meeting, Reynold Banigo, 23 and a finalist in the 2019 European U23 Championships, broke new ground as he recorded a wind legal jump of 8.04m (-0.3m/s)! Not only did he land himself a decent 2nd placed finish behind none other than current Oly, WIC, EC and EIC champ Miltiadis Tentoglou's winning 8.28m effort, but also bagged himself a CWG qualifying standard too!
He's been under the radar, but has been quietly and gradually improving year upon year, and this will be a big moment for him. Hopefully one he can build from in an event that has hit the skids since former Olympic, World, European (2x) and Commonwealth champion, Greg Rutherford retired a couple of years ago.Last edited by RunUnlimited; 16-05-22, 10:54.Comment

On the UK U20 scene, 17 year old 400m hurdler Onyekachukwu Okoh made a big improvement this afternoon with a 52.01 time. He takes over 8/10ths off his previous best set 2 weeks ago in Nuneaton, and this represents his third PB in 4 races over the U18 height one lap barriers, where he's hacked over 2 whole seconds off the time he entered 2022 with (2021 PB, 54.08)
That's not too far off the 51.30 WU20 standard either.

Aimee Pratt's strong start to the season continues as she breaches 9.00 for the 3000 Metres for the first time with a 8.59.57. Maps across to a 2-3 second improvement on her steeple chase time so hopefully we can see a sub 9.20 later in the season.Comment

Significant PB and Euro u18 qualifier for 17 yo Iris Downes in her first 800 of the year: 2.05.64, down from last year's 2.08.73.
James Knockton, also 17, had knocked 20s off his 3000m pb, to get a Euro u18 qual 8.14.50.
Jess Bailey, still an u17, goes no. 6 on the British all time list u17 for her 9.19.91

See that "Uncategorized Groups" above ... The forum software now seems to replace any hashtag with that (don't ask me why!) So if you're trying to write 'hashtag 3 on the all-time list' it's better to write "no.3" which is what I've started doing.
Anyway, great time for Jess Bailey (a new one to me!) - almost rivalling the 9:14.9 that Spanish 16yo Xela Martinez ran indoors in February (she's also still in the U17 category). There's the European U18 championships coming up in early July ...Last edited by LuckySpikes; 11-05-22, 22:32.Comment

Further on the U20 400m hurdles scene - not far behind Okoh in that same race was 19 year old Tobie Watson, making his first outdoor appearance this season. In coming 2nd with a time of 52.36, Watson nearly took a full second off his previous PB. He's still a second adrift of the WJ qualifying standard, but don't be surprised in another big chunk taken out of his best in his next race.Comment

Daryll Neita recorded easy wins in Roma Sprint Festival with 11.28 (heat) and 11.25 (final) times, easily beating the previous meeting record (11.50) but just missing the EC standard by 1/100th. (The wind readings didn't come up on the results so don't know currently))
Ami Pipi came 2nd in the rarely run 150m, sandwiched between Italian 100m specialist Zaynab Dosso who won in 17.20, and former GB athlete Maya Bruney. Then a little while later, ran in the 300m, winning in 37.68.
Meanwhile sprint all-rounder Jamal Rhoden-Stevens ran in the 100m for some speed work and came 5th in a slightly disappointing 10.52. (This from an athlete who last year ran 10.28 and a over the wind limit (+2.9m/s) 10.17)Comment
