At tonight's Meeting Desafio Nerja (ESP), Aimee Pratt won the 5000 leading all the way to 15:30.72 - less than a second outside the England Comm Games standard. She suffered quite a bit in the last 2k though, having gone through 3k at 15:19 pace.

Ian Hodge reports that Jeremiah Azu has run a just over the wind limit 10.19 (+2.1m/s), easily his fastest time regardless of conditions, this early into the outdoor season.

Ian Hodge reports Tara Simpson Sullivan has thrown 69.15. 5th UK all time, and it says something about how hot the event is right now that two of those ahead of her are also from this year.

Katie Snowden went 3rd with 4.3.90 at the Sound Running meet last evening... a good early season run.
Ingebritsen smashed the opposition in the 5 K with 12.48.

A World Champs qualifying time for Katie. Adelle Tracey ran a Euro qualifier with 4.05.52, which is a PB for her.

Some significant UK results from over in the USA last night.

At the Sound Running Meeting in San Juan Capistrano, California, Katie Snowden finished in a close 3rd place behind Gabriela DeBues-Stafford's 4:03.20 in the main 1500m race. With her own finishing time of 4:03.90, the 28 year old Herne Hill and Nottingham University runner, in her first race on a track this year, goes under the World Athletics Championship standard (4:04.20). She is likely to be the first of *many* British women to achieve the standard!

Not far behind Snowden was Adelle Tracey who finished in 5th, running a new PB of 4:05.52 and she went under both the European (4:06.00) and English Commonwealth Games (4:07.00) standards in the process! Not bad for the former 800m specialist who's best 1500m time as recently as 2019 was outside 4:10!

At the same meet, 2019 European U23 800m silver medallist and sub-2 minute performer Ellie Baker, came 7th in a fast 800m won by American Allie Wilson's 1:58.18 WL, a big PB by almost a full second. Baker clocked 2:02.20, in a race where the top 2 finished sub 1:58, while 3rd to 5th all went under 2 minutes.

Kyle Langford was 3rd in the men's 800m which was a more tactical affair, finishing just behind Tony Van Diepen (1:47.10) and Brannon Kidder (1:47.38) with 1:47.49.

The men's 1500m meanwhile was a very tight race, won by Neil Gourley in 3:38.11 in his 2nd outdoor race so far. He was a step ahead of Canadian Will Paulson's (who has already run 3:33 outdoors) 3:38.36 and fellow Brit Jake Heyward's 3:38.55, who himself was making his outdoor debut in 2022.

But the big race of the night was undoubtedly the main men's 5000m race, featuring Jakob Ingebrigsten in his first outdoor appearance since his Covid-affected performance in the World Indoors. Also in the race were Patrick Dever and new number 2 all time for the indoor mile and Olympic 1500m bronze medallist Josh Kerr. Ingebrigsten won in 13.02.03, a WL with German's Mohamed Mohumed slashing 14 seconds off his PB with his 2nd place finishing time of 13:03.18.
NCAA 2021 10,000m champion Dever came 9th in 13:20.59, just outside his PB, but well under both European (13:24.00) and CWG (13:30.00) standards. As for Kerr, he finished down in 20th place in 13:37.99, quite a bit down on his 13:23.78 personal best from last year. Kerr I imagine though has bigger fish to fry over the 1500m as the season progresses.

Thanks for this RunUnlimited. A note in dispatches for Jarmaine Coleman. A big PB in the 1500 last night breaching 3.40 for the first time. I have him down for sub 8.20 in the steeplechase this year and his performances recently actually suggest as low as 8.14 in the right run race. Any views?

Loop-guru - agreed on Coleman. He ran an excellent indoor 5000m in February, sub-13:30.

That was Coleman's first race over the "metric mile" since 2017 (which was also his best time until yesterday) as an U23 btw! A nine second improvement from that 5 year old best, coupled with his impressive 3000 and 5000m times indoors (though he did underperform at the World Indoors, going out in the heats) , suggests that your assessment of his potential for improvement in the 3000m steeplechase is definitely on the right track. And considering the last time a British 'chaser managed to run sub-8:15 was Tom Hanlon's 8:12.58 at Monte Carlo 31 years ago, it would be quite some achievement for Coleman if he was to do it!

Also, worth a mention in the Women's 5000, both running PBs - Sarah Inglis 15:16.90 (15th) and Jenny Nesbitt 15:17.39. Both well under the respective Scottish & Welsh standards for the Comm Games, though Jenny already had the standard.

Ian Hodge says that Jacob Paul, the seemingly forgotten man of 400m hurdling, has run 49.89 over at the NAL meeting in Manchester today - though he is in error regarding the claim that this is Paul's fastest run in 5 years. In 2019, Paul had 49.57 and 49.87 performances under his belt, but it *is* true that this is the fastest he has ever run this early into an outdoor season.

A positive sign for sure.

Laura Zialor has her biggest win of her career as she takes the W at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, beating a pretty decent field in this World Athletics Tour - Gold event! 1.91m on countback from Ukrainian Oksana Okuneva, who has a 1.97m PB from a couple of years ago.
Zialor had 3 very good attempts at 1.94m too, which suggests that an improvement on her PB is on the cards soon.

For Laura Zialor a 1.91 and a win at a World Gold event is going to get good ranking points. Could be a key performance to get an invite to the worlds should the tough qualifying standard be out of reach.

Yes - she's current UK no. 2 in both events, but not at global/Euro champs standard at this point. This result gives her a Commonwealth qual for LJ, and she's 6cm off it for the triple, but obviously there are LJers with significantly better PBs currently off form still to make a mark this year who could overtake her. All complicated by the Commonwealths having limited numbers.

Holly Mills did five events in Cardiff at the weekend: 1.75m HJ, 13.58 hurdles, 35.77 javelin, 13.45 shot, and then a leg in a 4x4.

I wouldn't worry too unduly about that javelin performance in Cardiff... I think this year we'll be seeing Mills throwing it beyond 40m for the first time.
Everything else was pretty good too, though I'm sure Holly is aiming to get at least above 1.80m in any big heptathlon comps this year.
