Indeed! That was a great run from Talbot. Also Joel McFarlane might have beaten his previous 100m too, as he was not too far behind Talbot at the end.

    • Kat over 1.77 first time of asking at Gotzis - she must feel confident about her HJ as she had the highest opening height of anyone in the comp.

Ahh! And KJT also bows out at 1.80m, but she almost cleared it and looks like she has the form to go way higher.

        And sadly so does KJT.

After two events Holly in 6th overall, and Kat down in 11th.

    • (BTW, the contrast in quality between the best of British decathletes and those currently competing in Gotzis is pretty starkly shown in the distances being achieved in the long jump... Barely breaking 7m in Bedford, while you got folks flying over 8m, peppering the 8m distance, or at least getting into the 7.30's and beyond. )

Our senior men are just not at the same standard atm. Duckworth was a very good LJer of course, but not at his best in that event this year and not done anything else.

The best LJ was from Adam Hoole with 7.08 in the u20 comp.

    • 10.23 (+1.0m/s) and 10.28 from Nethaneel Mitchel Blake and Tommy Rahmdan respectively in the men's 100m A race in Dagenham, via Ian Hodge.

      • Accidentally osted in wrong thread:

Via Ian Hodge: 54.09 pb for Jessie Knight, (he says equal third UK all time but actually equal 4th), and 55.48 pb and Euro/Commonwealth qual for Hayley McLean.
He also reports a Commonwealth time for Jessica Tappin, 55.89, but perhaps getting to be too much competition now to actually secure a place...

        • Seamus Derbyshire with a great performance in the B race. It's been on the cards for a while but now joins the sub 50 club. 49.44 for another hurdles euro qualifier.

Oh, I thought it was 59ish. Must have misread something.

When Bekah Walton surprisingly made the final of the Euro U23s last year, as well as performing admirably against much better opponents in the Euro Team Champs too, I had a feeling that this woman might have a chance at being possibly the first British woman to breach the 60m barrier since the great Goldie Sayers, and indeed, this distance from Walton is the longest achieved by a GB javelin athlete since Goldie Sawyers threw 58.79m in 2016, the year that she retired.

          • 24.02, another pb for Abigail Pawlett to cement her lead in the u20 heptathlon. Faster than the winner in the senior hep at Bedford, all but five women at Gotzis.

I missed Chisom's HJ, but she threw 13.81 in the shot leaving her in the lead after that event.

Then 2nd in the 200 just ahead of Seren means she ends day 1 on top.

Time corrected to 24.12, still very good though.

Very pleasing improvement. That’s 5m clear of the rest. 2nd is Emma Hamplett who threw over 54m as a teenager in 2018 but hasn’t improved since. Hopefully this will inspire her.

In the men’s I’ve picked up that Whiteaker threw 74.86 a few days ago. That’s now 4 men over 74 this season, not stellar but 3 more than last year and the year before that and the year before that and 2 more than the year before that. I’ll take it as progress of sorts.
