Looks like Molly Caudery is back to her best. A little earlier on, she won the pole vault contest with 4.50m. That's the English CWG standard achieved for her and it is the highest she's vaulted since setting the UK U20 record 4 years ago of 4.53m.

U20 Sophie Ashurst also had a great day, setting a season's best of 4.15m to achieve the WU20 standard too.

A couple of noteworthy early results from the Loughborough International.

U23 Joe Ferguson, better known as a 200m exponent, smashed his 100m PB with a wind legal 10.25 (+1.7m/s). That hacked nearly 4/10ths off his previous best over 100m, and is close to the English CWG standard of 10.18.

Following on from his 100m PB, Joe Ferguson follow up with 20.63 in the 200m, which if confirmed would be also another PB. And the wind has been shown to be +0.8m/s which means the personal best is confirmed... A great day's work from Ferguson.

Sophie Walton, running in lane 8, appears to have bettered her 200m PB with a 23.43 time, which if the wind is legal will also be a WU20 qualifying time to boot!. Meanwhile U17 Faith Akinbileje, who came 3rd and wasn't too far back, looks to have absolutely taken her 200m best apart and almost certainly run a EU18 qualifying time too.

And it's been confirmed that the wind was legal on that run, so not only does Walton have a new PB and a WU20 qualifier, but Akinbileje, still just 16, also gets the Q standard for the EU18s. Her time? 23.68!

Having finally sussed the Roster app, I am impressed by the Loughborough results service! Niamh Emerson best in JT of 42.90. Her PB is 43.95. 3 throws over 40m. She's on entry list for SP too.

Well, looks like Niamh is officially back in the running. A decent 100m hurdles, some solid javelin throws, and a near PB in the shot put? Put that together with her best results from before her injury and that would be an easy 6200+ heptathlon at least.

Does anyone know what has happened to hurdle talent Lucy-Jane Matthews? She has only competed in shot put for the last couple of years since her 2020 silver medal behind Cindy Sember at the British Champs?

She was a multi eventer in her early teens but just wondered if she has given up on hurdling altogether.

Well, having a quick browse of her Twitter page, her most recent posts show her doing some hurdles training in Florida during April, while her last post on April 22 thanked Wiltshire council for the support she's received as part of the Futures Programme, with a picture of her about to throw the javelin.

I'm possibly wondering that rather than ditching the hurdles altogether, LJM might actually making a return to her multi-eventing roots as an U17 back in 2018, when she won a medal in the EU18 Champs in Gyor over the hurdles that might have made her focus over the barriers for awhile.

Roster app has 13.61 as a PB outdoors. So Roster isn't as impressive as I thought lol.

There was also Jake Norris, 2018 World U20 champion, who made it to the NCAA Div I hammer final in Eugene with a 68.13m throw for 9th overall. However, Kenneth Ikeji, who earlier this month threw a new PB of 69.01m, could only manage a best of 65.79m today to finish out of contention in 17th. (Ireland's Sean Mockler, representing Indiana, managed to squeeze into the final though, his 67.56m effort in the 2nd round, the only measured one out of the three, was good enough for the 12th and last qualifying spot.)

Meanwhile in the equivalent NCAA West Preliminary at the University of Arkansas John McDonnell Field track, Fayetteville, Tade Ojora comfortably won his 110m hurdles heat in 13.48 (+1.2m/s). In an earlier heat, Jack Sumners, a semi finalist in the 2019 European U20s, still an U23 but has struggled with the senior hurdles, ran 14.09 (+2.1m/s) for 6th place and doesn't advance.

Another noteworthy result from a UK athlete was Yusuf Bizimana winning his 800m heat in 1:48.61.

In the men's 10,000m, 20 year old Charles Hicks, who in April smashed Dave Bedford's 50 year old UK U23 10,000m record and won the PAC-12 Championship in Eugene over the same distance 13 days ago, came 7th here to qualify for the big NCAA Div I final, running 28:47.33 in damp conditions.

Out in the field, recent 70m man Bayley Campbell threw 68.74m with his 3rd and final attempt to come 4th overall in hammer qualification, to also book his place to Eugene in June. Another Brit, Edward Jeans, also made it to he NCAA Div I Championships, with a 65.03m effort.

Also from that Toulouse meet, in the B 800m race, U20 Ethan Hussey, who already has the WU20 standard for the 1500m, almost managed the same for the 800m, with a 1:48.47 time to come in 3rd place (the standard is 1:48.00). Behind in 4th was Will Greenwood in 1:48,65.

Some results from the World Athletic Continental Tour Challenger Series meeting, the Liese Prokop Memorial (St. Pölten, AUT) earlier today.

In the men's 100m, Jamal Rhoden-Stevens set a new PB of 10.29 (+1.8m/s) in finishing 3rd in the A final, while U23 Brandon Mingeli came 4th in 10.35.

The women's 100m featured Desiree Henry and a rare foray over the distance for Laviai Nielsen, with the latter setting two PBs in the heat and the A final of 11.55 (+0.8m/s) and 11.51 (+1.6m/s). She finished in 3rd place in said final, behind Desiree Henry's 11.37 SB, which had followed a season's best of 11.42 in the heats, a noticeable improvement from her sluggish race at the Birmingham Diamond League.

As is traditional for the NCAA Eastern and Western Preliminaries, the 2nd day (and 4th day) of competition are focused on the women's events only, and there was a lot of action featuring British athletes.

In the NCAA West Prelims, the women's hammer had to be rescheduled due to the bad weather which had affected the previous day's men's programme, but that didn't prevent Anna Purchase, Amy Philips and Tara Simpson-Sullivan from all booking their spots to the NCAA Division I Championships held in Hayward Field, Eugene this June. Purchase (68.95m), Philips (68.01m) and Simpson-Sullivan (67.87m) finished in 3rd, 4th and 5th places respectively, behind the outstanding Canadian Camryn Rodgers and American Alyssa Wilson.

(Rodgers btw improved upon her own Commonwealth and Collegiate Records with a 76.46m PB, putting up to 4th in the world this year, and 21st in the all time list. Meanwhile, NCAA no.2 ranked Wilson also went beyond 70 metres with a best of 72.85m.)

However, in the equivalent hammer contest in the NCAA East prelims, the trio of Brits competing there, Alice Barnstable (59.23m - 25th), Charlotte Williams (57.76m - 31st) and Hannah Blood (57.19 - 35th), all failed to make it to Eugene.

Also in the East Prelims, Divine Oladipo continued her rich vein of form as she threw a fine 17.64m to come 4th in the shot put and book her place in the field at Eugene next month.

Back out west, there was agony for Funminiyi Olajide, who missed out on a spot in the NCAA Finals on countback. She managed a best jump of 6.22m (+0.9m/s), however, because it was her only valid effort, she placed 13th due to Kansas State's Velecia Williams, who jumped the same distance, having another valid jump to be measured.

Also, Temi Ojora was a DNS for the long jump and maybe a doubt for her better event the triple jump on Saturday.

Moving on to events on the track; Kiah Dubarry-Gay just missed out on an automatic spot for the quarter-finals of the 100m by 1/100th of a second. Her run of 11.62 (-0.6m/s) was also a mere 5/100ths away from a fastest non-auto qualifying place. However, just under 2 hours later in her stronger event the 200m, Dubarry-Gay did manage to secure a place in the quarter-finals, with a 23.49 (-0.1m/s) time for 3rd place in her heat.

Her twin sister, Nayanna, came 5th in her heat of the 400m which contained the current NCAA no.1 and sub 50 second athlete, Charokee Young who won it comfortable by over a second in 51.04. Though Nayanna was outside the top 3 automatic places for Saturday's QFs, her 53.37 time (the 2nd quickest of her life) was fast enough for one of the 6 non-automatic Q times.

At the NCAA East Prelims, Katy-Ann McDonald auto-qualified for the Saturday QF with a 2:05.76 for 3rd place in her heat.
