2017 European U20 champion Milica Gardasevic (SRB) set a PB in winning the LJ. She's improved from 6.64 to 6.83 this year. Good consistency too - 6 of her 7 outdoor competitions this year have been at 6.67 or better. The only one not ... unfortunately the WCh, no marking in qualifying.

Ceh is entering the discus stratosphere - at 23 that’s already his 3rd 71m+ effort. As far as I can see Stahl has managed 5, the same number that both Kanter and V Alekna achieved in their entire careers. WR holder Schult only had one. 72m has only been exceeded 4 times - Schult, Alekna and Kanter twice.

Mystery is right about Kovacs. Superb thrower with the misfortune to be up against Crouser who has redefined the event. One of his warm up putts a few years ago was believed to be around the 24m mark. Maybe a bit fanciful but I hope he joins the 23m club one day.

On the subject of Kovacs I’ll bet there aren’t many elite male throwers that are coached by their wives. Ashley Kovacs nee Muffet also coaches Divine Oladipo.

The Memoriał Wiesława Maniaka in Szczecin is always a good little meeting. I'm amazed it's not a Conti Tour Bronze meeting but maybe the organisers don't want the responsibilities that come with that. Selected results (there were no events above 800 nor any field events for women) ...

Ferguson registers ok. He is number 5 in p of 10 this year ,so far. A Brit who lives in GB, trained by Brits , i think, trains and competes here during the year.
More than you can say about Hughes, NMB, Gemili, and Dobson who currently trains and competes in the USA.

Indoor news not Outdoors ...

The 2023 World Indoor Tour calendar is up - 44 meetings expanded from 34 meetings in 2022. All except the Kallithea High Jump meeting are already established meetings.

An Ethiopian double at the Copenhagen Half Marathon.

Milkesa Mengesha won the Men's race in 58:58 PB. Defending champ Amedework Walelegn was 2nd and Dominic Lobalu 5th.

In the Women's race Tsigie Gebreselama had a 29s lead over Tadu Teshome at 15km (both 21yo) but faded and was overhauled by Teshome who won in 66:13. Teshome will be familiar as Tade Naru to anyone who watches the Women's Grand Prix Series 10k races in South Africa. She should be in Jo'burg in 2 weeks' time to defend her lead in the overall standings there (worth a good pay day!) Pre-race favourite, Vicoty Chepngeno, was up in the lead three on sub-65 pace for the first 8k or so but faded back to 8th.
Calli Thackery ran around 69:00 PB (official results not yet available)

At the 10 mile Dam tot Damloop in Netherlands, Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi won a close race in 50:42. Lonah Salpeter was over a minute behind in 4th. Charles Langat won the Men's race in 45:14.

Last night's Sydney Marathon was won in a thrilling 3-way finish by Moses Kibet, 2:07:02. In the Women's race Tigist Girma pulled away in the last few km to win in 2:25:09. She's a two-time sub-2:20 athlete.

I notice that today World Athletics announced they have officially ratified Tobi Amusan's 12.12 world record from Eugene as well as the other records set by Sydney McLaughlin and Mondo Duplantis, plus the under 20 record from Letsile Tebogo.

I doubt it will ever come to light as to whether the timing was not legitimate, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the governing body had the controversy "swept it under the carpet" so to speak similar to how the 10.49 record was accepted 34 years ago.
