  • Sifan Hassan is also conspicuous by her absence this year.

On the Eugene track with a nice tail wind maybe 21
45 is possible.. I worry about Steiner. She is an NCAA athlete. Has she been and is properly tested.??

        • Mboma has a physical advantage over other athletes with her elevated testosterone.
Is that vastly different than some of the freaks that compete in athletics, like a 6 foot 4 female triple jumper, all legs and poor technique, or a 2 metre tall and 20 stone mountainous shot putter who is an OG champion.?

I wouldn't worry about Steiner. A very strong athlete who has run more than 50 races since the start of the year. US indoor 200m record earlier this year, then 21.80 at the Collegiate Championships followed by 21.80 and 21.77 at the USATFs. She can also run 10.90 at 100m and is a great 400m relay runner. If she maintains her form over the next 3 weeks, a likely silver medalist over 200m beyind Jackson.

I think "marilyn" is referring to "tested" as in "tested for doping".

          • Its gonna be exciting!

And I will be super happy if we have representation in both the 100 and 200 finals. Even if they don't medal. Hopefully two in the 100.

          • Our two, and I assume you mean DAS and DN, should put their main focus on the European Championships.

          • If you have aspirations of winning the w 200 at a global champs then, as I've said before, i think you have to be targeting the world record. I think Dasher gets this. If she is in peak condition the target is the world record.

Your enthusiasm is touching, but there is no way in this world that DAS or any current runner will beat 21.34 secs.
DAS will have a fight to make the finals top 6.

              • More depressing than I thought possible were the official spectator numbers for 4 days at Eugene's track and great athletics
No day was more then 3600 ,the max for one day. We now know this years WC spectatator figures are a maximum in the Stadium of 17000.zThe Amercans promised 30K and the WA accepted it

Agreed - Track Town USA, my ar$*! Typical Nike hype. Luckily, us Brits will make some noise at the WCh. that said, I suspect as a man in my late 50s I'll lower the average age of the BASC travelling fans ;-)

              • I don't think Abby Steiner should focus on the 200 (and DEFINITELY not the 100) with her sluggish starts. She'll have to face both the Namibian intersex athletes and the Jamaican Stephen Francis products in the future, and I can't see her beating them... at least not on a consistent basis. Her future lies with the 400 IMO. She'd be scary fast in that event.

Darn those Americans! Should've been held in Qatar, China or Russia again.

                  • I actually feel more - not less - optimistic about Dina's 200 medal prospects after this weekend. Thomas is out. Chafford is right - Steiner has run 52 races including relays this year. That has included 3 big champs (the regionals were highly competitive). She must have peaked. ETH is still short of last year's form (she turned it around in the 5 weeks between Jam champs and OG last year, but she has only 3 weeks this time). SAFP isn't looking as good over 200 as last year. Mboma is still injured . 21.8 might get a medal and on that track I wouldn't be surprised to see Dina run 21.7. The dark horse will be Prandini.

It will be interesting to see Dina's 200m at the Diamond League this week. That will a good indicator of if she is contention for a medal.

The equation is still pretty tough, instead of it being a scrap for silver and bronze with ETH the likely winner, its now looking more likely a scrap for bronze behind the two Jamaicans. Ofili hasn't shown her hand yet. I thought Steiner would have run out of gas by now but she hasn't so I can't see why she can't keep going for another few weeks

DAS is running the 200 against DN and Kambundji in Stockholm.

Hopefully a case of people going to World Champs rather than USAs - we shall see.

I was being a bit cheeky. Give me Eugene everyday over those places. And I'm not even a fan of the people of Oregon (although there are apparently some beautiful scenery in that state).

                  • Maybe McKinna’s on to something. All 3 20m women this year use rotational. Sarah Mitton’s comparatively small, but very dynamic. Her 20.33 is worth a look.

I’ve also seen a couple of videos of Alekna junior. Very impressive with definite power to add.
