A baptism of fire if he finals at Eugene with the Anericans and others.

Not one to make a fuss about her victories and probably not surprised at her performance. Certainly contented at the post-race interview. Remarkable performance.

      • That run from McLaughlin means she has 4 of the 5 fastest times in history.

Gunnell is now only the 11th fastest all time with the 10 ahead of her having recorded 23 separate performances better her ex WR. That event has moved on hugely in contrast with m800 where Coe’s NR is still the joint 9th fastest all time, tied with Amos with only Rudisha and Kipleter ahead of him.

        • And her base speed is why she will be WC in a couple of weeks. Sadly we have no 400m hurdlers of remotely world class and the last one to be able to run fast was a great fave , Akabussi , who as you recall was a National champion on the flat. The reason why Dos Santos is a likely medallist is his flat speed ,mid 44s

And yet Alastair Chalmers got the World qualifying standard making him by definition world class. But don’t let facts get in the way of your pessimism.

And Dai Greene won a Word Championship a while ago now, but a lot more recent than Akabusi.

        • Poor USA 5k runners had their trials in Eugene moved to morning run today , as temperature is going to be max 36 degrees today.. The 200m runs and both hurdles races will enjoy rather hot runs and add in those lovely helpful winds and I think we will see some great performances .

I remember that nasty assault on Bosse a while ago too.

But that was just in the street, wasn't it? This was AT THEIR CHAMPS.

          • Reigning discus World Junior Champion Mykolas Alekna, still only 19, threw 69m at the Lithuanian champs today.

Wow! Not discounting Stahl at all, but watching Alekna and Ceh in the coming years will be fantastic.

              • 6 men have now gone over 80m in the hammer, the most since the 7 in 2012. There are also a couple more over 79.85. WC could be lively.

                • Gabby Thomas struggling in her 200 semi. Seems her pulling out of New York earlier this month wasn't precautionary as she's been struggling with a hamstring injury. She scraped into the final but don't fancy her chances in the final unfortunately.
