Ran even faster in the semi final, setting a 9.76 (+1.4m/s) WL and going to = 6th on the world all time list and = 3rd on the USA all time list, joining Christian Coleman (Booo!) and Trayvon Bromell. And talking of that idiot Coleman... he was a no show in the final after running a 9.87 SB in his semi final heat, where he finished 3rd behind Bromell and Bracey-Williams.... That was almost the best result of the entire US Trials right there!Comment

I can't believe folks aren't mentioning Athing Mu's 800m semi final win, where she ran 1:57.55 and dragged a bunch of others into setting substantial PBs too, like Sage Hurta who was 2nd in 1:58.30, and Olivia Baker, 3rd in 1:58.46, both of them going sub 1:59 for the first time and taking more than a second off their prior PBs.Comment

Hodgkinson must *hate* being around in the era of Mu... she is by far and away World number 2, but Mu is terrifying.Comment

Let's hear it for Yohan Blake.A great win in the Jamacan trials, with Oblique Sevill just behind. The 800m at the WC is going to be enormous.Comment

He’s taking chunks off his time as the season goes and he gets more races over the new height.Comment

Another WR for McLaughlin. On an absolutely different level. Would have won the flat 400m at the UK champs (albeit slightly different conditions).Comment

Looks like the USA will only be sending one representative to the World Champs in the men's 1500m, as Cooper Teare won the Trials final in slow, tactical, 3:45.86. He had the standard, indeed he is the no.1 American this year, so he's punched his ticket for a return appearance in this stadium in 3 weeks time.
However, the 3 other men who had the required time, Johnny Gregorek, Yared Nuguse and Henry Wynne, all finished outside of the remaining podium places, in 6th, 11th and 12th respectively. With USATF's stringent and ruthless selection policy for major championships, those men paid the price for messing around in such a slow race and will not get a chance to represent the USA in a home championships.Comment

That's not how the US system works. An important principle of US selection is that they always take the biggest team they can. In events like the sprints and hurdles they tend to have so many athletes who are qualified for the Worlds that it is unlikely that someone who isn't qualified makes the first 3. For example, all 16 women's 100h semi-finalists had the QT. In an event where there are athletes in the first 3 at the US Trials who aren't qualified by mark or World Athletics ranking, they will go further down the order to fill their compliment up where they can. -
Yes - they'll take the 6th and 11th place guys. (Or are any of those above them in a rankings spot?) -
Ahh, thanks for clearing that up for me... I always imagined that the first three past the post rule meant that if those that did have the standard, but didn't get into the top three would be left out.
