At the Madrid Silver meeting there were 4 national records, all European women's ...

Sara Fantini improved her own 74.86 NR in the Hammer, first to 75.76 and then to 75.77! Laura Redondo (ESP) added 37cm to her NR with 72.00.

The other 2 NRs were for Denmark:

Ida Karstoft (DEN) improved her 200m mark again, winning in 22.68 (-0.5). Paula Sevilla ran sub-23 for the first time, 22.86.

In the 100H Mette Graversgaard won in 12.89 (-1.2), improving her recent NR by 0.03s. Sarah Lavin improved her PB by 0.01s to 12.93.

Neele Eckhardt-Noack won the TJ with 14.48, a European Lead and outdoor PB.

Luguelin Santos showed some form in the 400, winning in 45.09 SB ahead of Ireland's Christopher O'Donnell, 45.26 PB.

Ellie Baker was a very good 2nd in the 1500, 4:06.64 SB, beating some good names like L Hall, Trost, Perez & Mezulianikova. After a 63.7s first lap the pace dropped to 68.8 on the 2nd lap, the altitude obviously doing them no favours.

Great to see little Denmark has a decent short hurdler.

2.03 WL for Mahuchikh at the Brněnská laťka meeting in Brno (CZE) yesterday. Gerashchenko 2nd with 1.97.

Shelley Anne looked smooth in her opening heat..
10.70 , legal. Jackson easy in 10.98. The OG champ in 11.01 but nice and relaxed.
The awful Richardson in the USA trials did not qualify for the semis...ran 11.31. The overrated Cole Hocker also failed to go through in his heat, in the 1500m.
Fred kerley 9.83 in his heat. He is Amican no 1 for me in the 100m. No other sub 10s I recall.
Noted at the Jamaican champs Oblique Sevill looked easy looking round, 9.98. If the wind is kind may see a nice sub 9.90. Johan Blake sub 10 ..still doing ok after 11 years.
This w/e there will be more than 15 national champs... sure to shake up the quota list on WA rankings

The US trials doesn't disappoint with it's dramas and upsets.

You can say a lot about Sha'Carri but there is no doubting she is super talented. But at the moment that talent is being wasted. Time to concentrate on the track....but we said that last year too.

Hocker not in as good form as he was last year but I still expected him to make US Team so that's a surprise. And Tara Davies, 3 fouls in the Long Jump.

From what I've seen, the 10.70 looked all out from Shelly-Ann, so I guess she was laying down a marker and won't bother running tonight, saving herself for the 200m.

I feel Richardson has the basic talent but not the character to succeed at the top level. I had a suspicion she would manage to sabotage herself again this year, although I wasn't expecting it in as much of a damp squib way as this.

Something tells me that ditching drugs cheat Mitchell as her coach might go a long way in getting her on the right track... Richardson's ability to listen to outside advice though is another matter altogether....

Wow.... Sha'carri Richardson only managed 11.31 in the heats of the US Trials, and she is out before most of the fans had managed to get into the cheap seats in Hayward Field. Only 5th place in the particular heat she was in, well behind winner Tamari Davis' 11.04.

She's going to catching some pelters on social media for awhile to come methinks. Ouch.

Don't rule out the possibility that what OH refers to as her talent may have been enhanced greatly by PEDs, so leaving Mitchell might make her slower. Normally I think outspoken, 'controversial' characters can be good for a sport, helping it get publicity but she is toxic. The way both her and Houlihan reacted to their bans damaged the sport because they influenced a lot of people tot think the doping authorities were corrupt, when in reality their cases were open and shut.

Sha'Carri has also kept up that rhetoric trying to demonize the USATF Doping control with some of Tweets from just a few days ago.

To see her bomb out of the heats in the US Champs in that case doesn't make me particularly upset....

Also, considering who coaches her, the fact that she is criticizing, even calling into question the integrity of the drug testers, saying that they have an "agenda" against her while letting others get away with it, or alluding such, should be planting some giant red flags to folks who know about the sport.

That's a fair point, but until someone actually test positive you have to give them the benefit of the doubt (while frowning on dubious connections such as choice of coach).

100 per cent agree. She is largely influenced by PR spin doctors. Many people in the States consider her a full on doper and that the stuff was not cannabis or whatever after her massive death.

Just to clarify, is he not running 800 at trials or not planning to contest it at Worlds?

He gets a WC as DL winner. It does probably mean he won't be doing 800 in Birmingham though, as Kenya have said all their athletes will be doubling at WCs and Commonwealths, and no extra slot available there.
