  • Startlists are now out for today's Continental Tour meetings ...

    Bydgoszcz (Gold) - https://szewinska.domtel-sport.pl/
    Manchester (Silver) - https://manchester2022.microplustiming.com/index.php

Wonders will never cease! There's a startlists & results page for a British meeting that doesn't look like a relic of the internet circa 1998!

I like the look of the Women's 5000 in Manchester - a lot of my favourite European athletes in that ... Mishmash, Klara Lukan, Mariana Machado, Cristina Ruiz, Jenny Nesbitt ...

    • Wonders will never cease 2 - hammer competition in a normal meeting! Hopefully at least one of our 3 69m ladies will enter the 70m club.

Another meet where Okoye is conspicuous by his absence. Presuming injured.

He’s doing the Rabat DL instead

        Good news. Thanks!

    • Infrequent competitions until later in the year seems to me to be a default position for many athletes espececially British athletes, most of whom i expect to be at their best after the WC, but in time for CG and the Euros.
Interesting to note that, in the Road to Oregon site where those individual athletes of the UK and the rest of Europe are set out in the section called "qualified by Rankings" as opposed to"by Entry Standard",when you click on athletes names, time and again, their 5 performances shown against each such name, the dates of the 5 shown are after the WC date for this year. That suggests that the athletes are competing better in August and into September. Too late for their peak to be by July 15.
The intensity of three major Champs in just over a month will, in my view, catch many out, who have perhaps not gauged the season correctly.

As Jimbo points out, when majors have historically been later, better performances have also been later. Some athletes will time their peak incorrectly but most will have adjusted fine.

    • Surely you’d need to see when their focus of that specific year was - most majors are in August, so not a surprise most would usually peak then. Can’t use that data for this year, other than to see if they usually time their peak well e.g. someone like DAS usually peaks at a champs - not because of the date!

      • At the Manchester Silver meeting there were National Records for two of the minnow countries of athletics.

An Argentine NR for Florencia Borelli in 3rd in the 5000 with 15:23.83, taking almost 13s off her 3 year old record. That's a third NR for her in 2022 after the Marathon record in February and the 3000 in April (also a South American record)!

A Danish NR for Mette Graversgaard in the 100H with 12.99 (-2.0), taking 0.12s off the NR she already had.

There was further success for Denmark with 18yo Joel Ibler Lillesø improving his 5000 PB & U20NR by 2s to 13:29.58 !

At yesterday's Jessheim 1500m Elite meeting in Norway, Georgia Griffith (AUS) took 0.22s off her 2018 PB to win in 4:03.95 and bag herself a Eugene standard.

        • Some good action in the Arona multi events meet, with Chari Hawkins following up a 13.30 (+0.2m/s) 100m hurdles with a PB of 1.85m in the high jump. Spaniard Claudia Conte, carrying the country's hopes after Maria Vicente's injury on the eve of the World Indoors ended her outdoor season, cleared 1.82m in the high jump, after 13.98 in the hurdles.

          • Julian Wagner (GER), runs 10.12 (+0.1m/s) to win the 100m A Final in Regensburg earlier today, a European Championship qualifier and the 24 year old's 2nd fastest time ever.

            • 11.08 (-0.4) for Swoboda in Chorzow. Kielbasinska 11.22 PB in third. Throw in Pia + Adamek or Stefanowicz (?) and the Polish 4x1 is one to watch on a European level.

              • ETH looks supreme in Rabat. Although I suspect she will try to avoid racing SAFP (or vice versa) until the WCs.

                • 4:00.16 for Georgia Griffith, a 3.8s PB ! No. 3 all-time Aussie.

I've never noticed before what a shuffler Freweyni Hailu is, albeit a very fast one.

                  • Meshesha looked brilliant. Not sure what the commentary was on about calling that not particularly fast...

Katie Nageotte doesn’t look the athlete she did last year.

Chris Derrick is an awful commentator, he was abysmal on the Eurosport coverage of the Olympics last year.

Crammy was excellent, gently pointing out his daft comment.

I wouldn't say Chris Dennis is awful. For truly awful commentators just look to America. They specialise in that! Chris Dennis is still way better than any of them.

Chris Derrick BTW is a US distance runner.

                  • That was a very confident performance by Markovc.

Yes, a very good race and a nice PB.

                  • Oh no, Warholm pulls up injured, is he going to be out of the WCs?

                    • Contrasting fortunes for the 400H Olympic champions today. McLaughlin ran 51.61 in Nashville, making me suddenly less confident about my Femke Bol prediction!

Hope it's not too serious for Warholm.

Apparently a couple of Sydney's hurdles in the wrong place so time probably won't count. But she is clearly in excellent shape regardless.

                    • Was that clock right on the last lap of the Steeple?? El B took the bell at 7:03.0 on the clock and ended up at 7:58.28 ... A 55.3 last lap ! It looked fast but not that fast. If correct, it must be the fastest ever Steeple last lap? Or maybe Ezekiel Kemboi ran a quicker one?

Two athletes going sub-8 in different races within 1 week - that's never happened before.
