  • Anouk Vetter threw a very impressive 59.81 pb in the jav to go into the lead in the Gotzis hep. Sulek, so good up til now, was poor in this event, only managing 38.66, almost 4m down on her best.

    • Stunning stuff from Anouk Vetter in the javelin at Gotzis just now.... 59.81m! Taking meeting record from none other than Nafi Thiam's monster throw 2017!

      • Big javelin pb for Jade O'Dowda at Bedford, by over 3 metres to 45.90.

        • New Dutch record for Anouk Vetter winning Gotzis. I would have a few quid on her being on the podium again in Eugene. Decent performance from Sulek, especially 1st day but fell back a bit on day 2.

Oosterwegel a bit off the pace except for the javelin, some work to do for her if she is to repeat her Tokyo medal winning performance.

The Belgian Women watching at home don't have too much to fear other than Vetter by the looks of things.

I note that Anna Hall competed in the 400H and qualified comfortably for National Champs in that event. I wonder if she plans to do that rather than the Heptathlon? It would leave her body a little fresher ahead of worlds if so.

            Vetter is in great shape.

Does anyone know what sort of shape Thiam is in?

Looking at her World Athletics profile, she.ran 24.37 for 200m in Oordegem yesterday and a 13.54 last week for the hurdles. So certainly seems in decent form in the speed events. Not competed in any throws or.jumps.

Last year she.said she wouldn't do a Heptathlon before the Olympics as she tended to score lower in her 2nd Hep. Given that worked I suspect she will be doing the same this year.

        • we do not know how her elbow is holding up for the javelin, which is a big score for her.Well done to Vetter and lets hope its a quality competition , now that the WL is a bit respectable.

          • "Road to Munich" tool showing status of 2022 European Championships qualification

Maybe quite a few of you already know about this? But, I vaguely remember reading about it then I forgot it existed!

Anyway, it's very useful and the format is a carbon copy of the World Athletics Road to Eugene tool so will be familiar to anyone who's perused that.

            • Indian spear-chucking continues to rise!

Last week at the Indian Grand Prix meeting in Bhubaneswar, 20yo Yashvir Singh threw 82.13 to become the 12th Indian to throw over 80m.

In 2022 alone there's been 3 new members of the Indian 80m club. One of those, Rohit Yadav (also 20), threw 80.88 at this meeting.

Aha, he's on the startlist in Ostrava tomorrow. But just listed as Yupun Abeykoon so it looks like Jen has been spared the challenge of saying "Mudiyanselage" !

                  • There's been shed loads of PBs in the 100s and 1500s on the pre-programme at Ostrava. Conditions are obviously good for fast running!

According to BBC Weather, it's 22C with a gentle breeze in Ostrava right now. Certainly a lot better than it has been in the UK the last few days.

                  • Hutchings & Hannah on comms in Ostrava. No Jenny!

                    • Stunning run from Girma in the Ostrava 3000m Steeplechase, 7:58.68 WL and PB!

                      • It may not be a World Record event but Bol's 36.86 300mH was quite some run with a couple of dodgy hurdles too. I suspect it will be noted by a certain American or two.

                        • Some very good British performances in Ostrava covered on the other thread. From an international perspective ...

The performance of the meeting was undoubtedly Femke Bol ! She adopted the Warholm tactic for the first time I think - go out hard and finish fast! That was phenomenal ! I'm calling it now, Femke Bol will win the world title this year running a 51.0 WR and leaving McLaughlin & Muhammad trailing in her wake!

The men's performance of the meeting was definitely Lamecha Girma's 7:58.68 in the Steeple, the first sub-8 since El Bakkali's in 2018. For a few years I've thought there's room for the WR to come down to 7:50 and now there's 3 guys with the necessary flat speed for that - Girma, El B (3:32-flat) and, if he can get his s**t together, Getnet Wale.

What a deep Women's 1500 that was - 13 women ran sub-4:05 ! Winner Diribe Welteji (2018 World U20 champ at 800) is putting herself in the frame for a World Champs spot but it's a very tricky team to make - Tsegay, Freweyni Hailu, Lemlem Hailu, Meshesha, Embaye ...
In this race 5 European women got the 4:04.20 Eugene standard who didn't previously have it (Kristiina Maki already had it from Tokyo last year). Some big PBs too. Here's the significant European results (with an eye towards Munich in August too) ...
                          Claudia Bobocea 4:01.10 PB - a 0.2s PB
Adelle Tracey 4:02.55 PB - a pleasant surprise!
                          Sarah Healy 4:02.86 PB - a 3.1s PB
Sofia Ennaoui 4:03.93 - a pretty smart return after not racing for 20 months
Melissa Courtney-Bryant 4:04.13 - Her best run since Feb 2021. Can she stay fit though?
                          Kristiina Maki 4:04.17
Marusa Mismas Zrimsek 4:04.46 - a Euros standard, should she decide to double there! Sets her up nicely for racing Pratt & Gega over the barriers on Friday in Manchester
Eliza Megger (POL) 4:04.90 - Must admit I've never heard of this 22yo but she ran a 5.1s PB here to bag a Euros standard!
Federica del Buono 4:05.93 - backing up her 4:05.5 last week

Great run too by Pia Skrzy, beating Ali & Tapper and improving her PB further to 12.65. I expect she'll be battling Cindy Sember for Gold in Munich?

Super run by Natalia Kaczmarek (POL), winning in 50.16 (a 0.56s PB) and possibly setting herself up as the favourite for Gold in Munich.

Big throw by 19yo Elina Tzengko, improving in the Jav to 65.40, a PB by almost 1.5m.

In the Women's PV Norway's Lene Retzius added 13cm to the NR she improved last week by vaulting 4.65!

Kaczmarek 2nd fastest Polish 400m ever, only Szewinska (we’ll be hearing about her on Friday) faster.

                        • Ostrava is always a great meeting and this was no exception. (Although I hope no one deaf was relying on the closed captioning; at least Jenny Meadows only mangles the names.)

The women's 200 looks like it's heading to the place the 800 was in a few years ago.
