At the European 10,000m Cup in Pacé, France there were a ton of European Championship qualifying standards and 2 Eugene qualifying marks.
Jimmy Gressier got one of the latter, winning in 27:24.51 PB. Carlos Mayo was way back in 2nd but he already has the Eugene standard. The first 18 men all ran quicker than the 28:15 European standard - I'm not sure how many of them already had it (not that many I think). 21yo Efrem Gidey (IRL) was 6th in 28:01.50, on his debut at the distance!
In the Women's 'A' race won by Yasemin Can in 31:20.18 (the other Eugene standard), 8 women ran under the European 32:20 standard (only Reh & Melero already had it) and the athletes in 3rd to 10th places all ran PBs!
Amongst them, Moira Stewartova (CZE) ran a NR in 6th, 32:08.96, improving her PB by 42s.
In 7th, Anna Arnaudo (ITA), just 21yo, ran 32:09.54 - a 31s PB. I've championed her on this forum for about 18 months and this was a great step up from her 2nd in the 'B' race last year, running a shade outside 33 minutes then. Italian Women's mid & long distance running is going through a bit of a purple patch at the moment.
GB's Abbie Donnelly ran a good 7 second negative split and a 26s PB of 32:20.82 in 9th place - the first Brit and easily an England Comm Games standard but just outside the European standard (though the latter might be academic).
Looking at the Women's startlist I think there was about 10 women who ran in Highgate 2 weeks ago (including 5 of the Brits) and I think Donnelly was the only one who ran faster tonight (certainly amongst the Brits she was).
So, overall, 2 pretty deep races in European terms. Full results at https://pace22results.european-athle...y-schedule.htm
I'm so pleased at the revival this event has gone through in the last few years. Taking it to Highgate definitely helped hugely and Pacé did a really good job tonight too. Live streaming it since it went to Highgate has also helped give it new exposure. There was a time 5 or 6 years ago when very few of Europe's bext distance runners were competing in this event. But, that's really turned around now.Last edited by LuckySpikes; 28-05-22, 20:35.Comment

ETH is definitely in shape. 10.98 for DAS in 4th. Shacarri Richardson seems to be back in the right frame of mind at last, can she sustain it until the WCs?Comment

Agree re Dos Santos & Aregawi.
Dos Santos could maybe run 46.3 at the WCh? That might be enough to win.
Aregawi's only bad race in the last year has been the World Indoors heat.
The finishing tape is cheesy for a track meeting. They better not be doing that cr*p in July!Comment

Brilliant - great stadium as well allowing spectators to be close to the action. KH in great form in the 800m. DAS maintained this season's pattern of fading in the second half of her races. She-doesn't look like a contender for the WC 100m, at least at the moment. The only consolation.for the ECs is that she beat MK. MHS very lucky not to be disqualified in the 400m but great to see him break the British Record. LM apparently jetlagged which probably explains her poor performance.in the 1500m.
