Tsegay looks supreme at the moment.

Yep, no-one's beating her in the 15 in Belgrade if she decides to run it (presuming Kipyegon or Hassan don't make a surprise appearance). Elle Purrier might try and grind her down but I don't see it working.

Ewa Swoboda takes down Thompson-Herah. Ok, a one-off but she’s right to be chuffed.

A busy weekend of national champs action ahead and a nice way to start it with the Women's 3000m semis at the Spanish Championships in Ourense.

The final looks pretty good with a load of athletes I've watched about 8 times already on the country this winter - Ruiz, Espejo, Tarraga, Gallardo & B Alvarez - as well as Solange Pereira (probably the favourite), Andrea Romero & young Carla Dominguez.

Also, qualifying for the final as a fastest loser was Xela Martinez, 16 years and 1 month old, who ran a Spanish U18 record, 9:14.96.

New NR for Maria Vicente in the Pentathlon, 4582, improving the 4501 NR she set at last year's Spanish Champs. Claudia Conte was 2nd with 4374. She scored 4429 three weeks ago in France.

Wow - US heptathletes tend to be fairly weak in the 800 but that's quite an exception.

At the USATF Indoor Championships, Elle Purrier St-Pierre was beaten into 3rd in the 1500 (and therefore no Belgrade place) by Heather Maclean and Josette Norris.

Elle PSP is a very fine athlete but, if she hasn't ground her opponents into submission, she's a bit one-paced in a tight finish - a few hundredths covered the first 3 here.

She'll have another chance in a hot 3000 tomorrow though - Monson, Kelati and Norris also entered for that (though Norris might scratch after making the 1500 team?)

Abby Steiner from University of Kentucky ran 22.09 in winning the SEC Conference Championships. That's a US Record and only Marlene Ottey has run quicker.

            Impressive stuff from Bonevacia!

We recall Steiner last year indoors was very quick, so this year she can turn up in June in the same form

To be fair, she was injured from April and didn’t compete after that, I think! Hopefully coaches have her indoor to outdoor transition managed better

I think that's in the top 3 indoors this year for Bonevacia who was sub 45er last year

Yehualaw smashes Road 10 k WR in 29.14 and Kwemoi goes 27.16 both in Spain
She was placed by some guy in perfect conditions. These east Africans seem to be on a different planet
            Hope they are clean!!

Wrong thread, philipo. But, given you've posted here, I'll reply here too.

One of a slew or WRs on the roads lately. 29:14 is really out there and maybe in a year or two we'll get to the point where all these non-marathon road WRs are so fast that they'll stand for some time. That's presuming that there's no Supershoe Mark 2, of course!

Hopefully for Yehualaw this record does get ratified after her "WR" at the Antrim Coast Half Marathon was thrown out diue to a short course.

Interestingly, (courtesy of the WA report) Yehualaw says she won't bother with a track season because she doesn't think she'd make the Ethiopia 10,000 team for Eugene (are you sure about that, Yalemzerf??!) Instead, she'll stick to the roads and plans her marathon debut later this year.

That was Ronald Kwemoi's first road race which surprised me. I felt sure I'd seen him in one or two 5 or 10ks on the roads before.

The M 400 at the USATF Championships was won by D2 collegian Trevor Bassitt in 45.75. Donovan Brazier, reinstated after being DQ'd yesterday in the heats, was 2nd, 46.14 ,and so also earning a trip to Belgrade.

Elle Purrier St-Pierre managed to bounce back from yesterday's disappointment to win the 3000. A handy kick too (28.8 last lap) though it had only been 8:52-ish pace to 2000m. Further to my post yesterday, I just want to make clear that she doesn't really have an outstanding kick for the shorter distance. In a slower 3000 though, she's fine. Alicia Monson was 2nd.

Cole Hocker completed the 1500/3000 double.
