Obviously the final paragraph, my comment about safeguarding is relevant to Reider and the athletes coached by him. UKA attempts to influence this matter have been ineffective and in my opinion are undesirable anyway. An 18 year old is an adult who can vote, drive, buy alcohol, and is two years beyond the age of consent. No sports governing body is likely to influence who they decide to have a relationship with. As for further cases these seem to rest on rumour and nothing else. The censorious Woke may want to cancel just about anybody or anything they take a dislike to but due process and the innocent until proven guilty principle still apply in the real world, just.

While I think you have made some good points there, I cannot see how any of it has anything whatsoever to do with the topic being discussed.

LoveSprints1 I am fully aware of the definition of woke. It's the past of wake.
The modern use of the word by some to mean "Alert to injustice in society, especially racism" has become politicised and harnessed to justify all sorts of actions and bids for power for which there is no consensus in the UK. One group's interests have been pitted against another group or the rest of us supposedly in the cause of social justice. Some of it is frankly madness. Examples of that would include the Labour Party apparently now intimidated out of saying the word woman, actors accused of misappropriation when playing almost anyone but themselves, eminent scientists in New Zealand currently under attack by their own scientific community for respectfully defending science, because their words might upset Maori's...... I could go on as there is a long list of madness resulting from woke ideology. To top it all some prominent areas of woke activism are of themselves deeply racist or unjust.

It is noticeable that the Woke often demand people use words in the way they decide and seek to silence those who disagree or offend them. Sorry I will use the word woke anyway I choose.
As for safeguarding (the subject of this thread), safe spaces and many other aspects of safety are becoming detached from reality. Beyond the point which is practical, enforceable or desirable.

Laps here's a reminder of the definition of WOKE:

"Alert to injustice in society, especially racism" Please don't misuse the word.

Not sure where you've been for the past few years not to know / have heard 'rumours' of his charge sheet. Whatever happens on the US front, a 44-year-old man contracted to British Athletics was 'allegedly' having sex with an 18-year-old athlete in his charge. It was wrong then and it's wrong in any circumstances for someone in a position of power to abuse it. Everyone knew about it, most on this forum, know who she is. She wasn't protected by UKA and it's 'alleged' these behaviours continued elsewhere. We are all waiting to learn the outcome of the investigations and it might be that he is cleared. However, as a parent of athletes and as a coach at this point I wouldn't want my young adult female offspring within a mile of such allegations, or my sons around an environment where such behaviour was potentially normalised.

As you said Christian and Adam are adults and will make their own choices, but respect to Darryl Neita, as an athlete on the up, for whom Reider has made a difference, for doing, IMO, the right thing and moving away from Reider whilst the investigation is ongoing.

It seems to me that Messrs Gemili and Taylor are old enough and wise enough to make their own decisions on this. Other than what I have read in the press I do not know anything about Reider's 'charge sheet'. However the fact that athletes are standing by him is to me more a cause for reassurance than irritation that he hasn't been charged with something yet. The tendency for some to use rumoured allegations as a reason to suspend, sack and cancel is a woke tactic to be resisted. Putting pressure on the likes of Gemili and Taylor is attempted punishment by proxy.

Only taken 7 years or so.

UK Athletics were certainly negligent at the time, especially with regards to a then young athlete. They were quite happy to move the problem elsewhere. I also don't buy any protestations from the Dutch Federation. Would not have taken too much due diligence to get to the truth.

And surprised the press are only just running with this. I remember when he left British Athletics there was a lot of articles at the time expressing a lot of surprise that he had been let go. If I as a fan with no insider contacts had heard these rumours then I struggle to believe journalists weren't aware.

Puts a little more pressure on athletes remaining with him. Adam has just been re-elected to the BOA athletes commission for another term and with his role in the global Athletics Association it's not a great look. Same is true for Christian Taylor who heads that up - I understand he must feel incredible loyalty to Reider who has coached him since his college days and through all his triumphs & probably wants him in his corner whilst he comes back from his achilles injury. But it really isn't a great look to stand by Reider at present.
