Oh dear, I could see it was an hour different from the women's start and moved it the wrong way

Well my relay thoughts are messed up as per Instagram Jessie K has landed back in uk, assume perhaps a niggle from the fall and Tim's decided not risking her so she came home

I’ll go with Ama-Emily-Nicole-Jodie but I wouldn’t be surprised if they leave Emily on first

Looks like McPherson could be out of the 4x4, that will spice up the battle for the minor medals.

Both Cuba and Jamaica have lost their best runner. If JAM bring in Jackson, she might be a superstar or struggle after 300m…and run a 52 instead of a 49. All to play for!

Who was the Mens quartet that failed to qualify, seems to be no quality in our 400m talent at all right now

The year 2021 will certainly be a weak point in British mens 400m running, but there's nothing to suggest this is long term rot or something that can't be turned around within a few years. Just look at the strength on the womens side, the junior men and the very recent history of developing very good 400m runners like MHS.

It might not all be rosy in 12 months but there is too much good young talent floating around from 100m-400m (and hurdles) to say that a solid relay can't be formed again soon.

What we’re missing is the world class individual, but by a different measure - we have four U23 (one as an U20) under 46 seconds - that’s depth we haven’t had for a while. As three of them move into seniors next year, they’ll be competition for each other and it’s at least a platform to build on. That’s better than the post-90s scenario where we had great guys then all retire with nothing below them.

Yes - work to do, but some perspective needed.

Laviai had said she’s not in the final for those speculating on the relay line up

I'm happy about that , she hasnt nailed a leg all year imo. Hopefully she can get back to her best next year as she is so talented

I did a long-winded post on 'State of play - UK Relays', for it to fall foul of approval, where I suggested Diamond- Knight- Neilsen- Jodie Williams, but I understand Knight has returned to the UK (so that wont work). Yeargin gave a very gritty run in the heats so I'd hope for, Diamond- Yeargin- Neilsen- Jodie Williams and all the best ladies, a bronze will be a great result.

No Nielsen so I guess pipi - or would you try Hannah?

                  • #13
Nielsen isn’t running, so it has to be Pipi or Clark. Pipi normally runs lead off, so if it’s her, I presume she goes in there and move Diamond into a middle leg. A run like Pipi’s heats run on lead-off is exactly what we need to be in the mix

Nielsen not running... do we know why? then Ami for me, but the task gets more challenging...

A 50.9 split isn’t going to cut it when the others are running 50.3 (or even 51.5 from blocks) - she needed to go and run 50.5 or better. The fact Diamond was unusually on first for the heats perhaps suggests the others were racing for places, as she was booked in with her 50.1 in the mixed

I wonder how much Hassan will have left in the tank for her third final...

I think she assumed she’d take Laura, so that will annoy her, but also meant she worked hard all race. If the others have any sense whatsoever, they make the 10km as hard as possible. If they jog, I’d say Hassan still medals

Obviously saving the best until last. Would love to see Vetter throw very long but really not convinced it’s going to happen, last 2 or 3 times I’ve seen him he looks like he’s lost a bit of rhythm and is maybe trying a bit too hard. If it’s not to be him, I’d love to see Chopra take it, easily the best of the current crop to watch.

Good luck to the 1,500m men. Always enjoy watching Wightman.
