    • Looks like Hawkins has gone from the marathon, Thommo top Brit at 30K, in 69th, 5:50 down on Kipchoge

      • Hawkins confirmed DNF now. Down to 85 runners still showing as still in this. Kipchoge has this in the bag unless he blows up completely.

        • Didn't even look troubled. Utterly, utterly dominant.

          • Great spread of medals in athletics, even the usual dominant countries have suffered. A truly global sport.

            • Kipchoge ... just magnificent indeed. Total domination of that race. Looked pretty tough conditions so respect to everyone who managed to finish.

From the WA press release ... A record 83 teams reached finals in Tokyo with 43 teams featuring on the medal podium and 23 of those winning gold.

                • Any excellent result. We win medals across more sports than any other nation - not bad for a small country - Very difficult given Covid - remember we were into Covid earlier and had harder restrictions than most. On a global scale other countries were impacted a lot later than us. We had a very young team with no returning team GBgold medalists from Rio. We are well ahead of some predictions of no athletics medals. Our young team gives us so much to look forward to in only 3years time. We broke the African middle distance dominance. Add in injuries for KJT, Gemilli, Farah, Dina….. there’s a lot to get genuinely excited about for next years world champs as a springboard to Paris.

I would question two comments there, the UK a small country? 13 times the size of New Zealand who competed across a range of sports, 2.5 times the size of Australia who won medals in Basketball, hockey, beach volleyball, surfing, skate boarding, yachting, Diving, Canoeing/Kayak, Equestrian, Boxing etc before we get to the more prominent sports such as swimming and athletics or the near misses with 4th in Football etc.
