V disappointing from GB there - didn’t see us finishing behind Canada.

In all fairness it was GB's third fastest time ever, the standard this year has been raised significantly in almost all the events

Want to know the splits - Pipi wasn't the right call on 1 and gave Jodie too much to do. I suspect Jodie went very fast.

He says as GB ran their 3rd fastest time *ever*... The only GB teams to have run faster featured two of our greatest ever 400 m runners (TBO, Sanders, 2007 World Champs, 3:20.04 NR) and our greatest ever 400 m hurdler (Gunnell, 1991 World Champs, 3:22.04). Only one of those teams managed to win a medal, which just shows just how tough it is to get in amongst the world's best. I wouldn't be too hard on this team.

Didn’t realise it was quite that fast when I posted - though I would actually stand by it. I think we should have been sub-3:22 with the talent in that team.

Disappointing not to get a medal, but that was not a bad run.

Three left in the HJ: McDermott, Lasitskene and Mahuchikh will take the medals but in what order?

I think it wasn’t a bad team run but Pipi slowed badly in the last 80m or so, probably closer to 53, which was never going to be overcome - but that says a lot about the other 3 ladies. We need someone to become the new McConnell, super consistent with a 51.low from any lane.

I think she did OK - her first Olympics in lane 9 and those guys behind you? I'd try and run like crazy too. Give her another year or two and she won't slow so much. Mebbe a 50.5 lead off to come?

Who would have said it'd be the Dutch men medalling in the 4x4 2 weeks ago?! Massive leg from Van Diepen (visually)

Great run by the Dutch for silver. The Americans don't look as happy as they ought having won.

Only the great British teams of 96 & 97 have run faster of European teams.

trickstat Correct. They even ran faster than the famous gold medal winning team from the same venue at the 1991 World Championships.

Another great contest ! Really thought McDermott was going to win that but Lasitskene jumped brilliantly under huge pressure so can't complain.. Nicola will have to be content with silver and new Australian Record. Not too bad anyway ...
                Working...
