That's Britain's first medal in ANY Olympic middle distance event for a man since Peter Elliot won silver over 1500 m at the Seoul games in 1988, 33 years ago!

I'm sure you would have got good odds in 1988 of there being that long a wait.

Kerr is funny - self-aware but you need his self-belief

Very competitive athlete, has an air of Andy Murray

Nicola McDermott the only HJer over 1.98 first time. Lasitskene down in 8th at the moment due to three attempts needed at 1.95.

McDermott was , I thought , the best chance for an Australian gold in Athletics. Hasn't got it yet , of course - but she's giving it a real go...

Gold for Chopra and (historically) for India.

At 23 there may be more to come.

Just Wow. How great for Chopra and for India.

Well done Chopra. Great bounce back from injury.

Only just over 4m between the top 8.

For context, 21 years ago Backley threw 89.85 for silver……

Yeah, weirdly low levels in both javelins. Suggests the runway is doing something.

Six left in it but two only have one jump at 2.00

Yes I’d worried she might be tired. Think that’s the chance of a medal gone

Pipi is still relatively inexperienced at 400 and probably not well suited to leg 1 in lane 9.
                      Working...
