Ouch, Steph Twell ran 20:08 for the 5km to 15km. I guess she might not last much longer (unless it was a rather long toilet break!)
Ichiyama and Suzuki's transponders are working now!Comment

Dunno what I was thinking in the Prediction Contest when I predicted a winning time of 2:19:05. It won't be anywhere close!Comment

Past 20km and Jess Piasecki is moving through the field, now 24th and 16s off the front. All the expected names in a lead group of about 12, including Mao Ichiyama.
Krygyzstan's Darya Maslova having a cracking race in 19th. She's a former Asian Games 10,000m champion if I recall correctly.Comment

Halfway in 1:15:14. Jess Piasecki 26s back in 26th.Steph Davis 2 further mins back. Steph Twell is still going but through halfway in a tick under 1:25.Comment

At 25km Volha Mazuronak and Sally Kipyego are the first to drop from the front group. No nose bleed yet for Mazuronak though.
Molly Seidel doing great in the lead group as is Ichiyama.Comment

An injection of pace at 33km before a feed station splits the group with Dereje and Ichiyama going out the back. Molly Seidel still up there in a lead group of 5.Comment
-
A significant break with 4.5km to go? Kosgei & Jepchichir dropping Salpeter & Seidel by a few seconds.
Salpeter stops and walks as Seidel passes her!Comment
-
Well that was brutal old race.
Pretty pleased with my time prediction - only 47 seconds away from the actual time.
Less confident about Callum Hawkins' top 6 chances in this weather now though!Comment

Peres Jepchirchir is the champ in 2:27:20 from Brigid Kosgei A terrific bronze for Molly Seidel.
Dereje 4th, Mazuronak 5th (as she was in Rio) ... Ichiyama 8th. The over-40s Elmore & Diver 9th & 10th.
The Brits will be finished in several minutes time!Last edited by LuckySpikes; 07-08-21, 00:36.Comment

Who knows what happened with Salpeter, but she's trailed in 66th with 2.48. Did she walk the rest of the way after dropping out of a medal spot? Bizarre.Comment
