I worried that Laura could end up in no-man's land behind FK and SH and would get picked off in a late charge.

Finally justice she ran her best race, like Black in 96, that was her Gold

More disappointment for the USA here... Purrier was down in 10th and never in the race. So much for that 3:58 at the US Trials.....

Surely all the disappointing US performances say more about the RIDICULOUS decision not to have a holding camp and to fly the athletes in to compete, having given them no time to acclimatise or get over jetlag.

Yeah, injured maybe or just part of the general American malaise at these Games?

Not that she would have been a threat to Laura (even at her best).

6 out of 6 PBs for our women's middle-distance runners!

Looks like her former training partner gave her a hand... When Kipyegon and Hassan went to the front, Laura slotted behind Debues-Stafford at a slightly slower pace that allowed her to keep in touch without burning herself out. Once Laura made her move, she was in near-perfect position to take on and pass Hassan.

Faith Kipyegon - remarkable defence of her title after having a baby. What a star. Another Mother at the top. So many women with children have made the podium. Role models all.

Well done Laura, a pleasure and honour to witness. The experiment with 5k never really delivered, whereas the focus on improving her 800 is paying off. Maybe its the track or shoes, but there is noticeably more bounce in her running action.

Not trying to be smart after the event ; but I do think most on here slightly underrated Laura (perhaps out of fear of hexing her ?) A lot of assuming she had to defer to both the others - I am glad she didn't.

Yes she has been just out of the medals in the past - but this year she was clearly in great form and had the confidence to choose to put all her eggs in the one 1500 basket : and rewarded with a silver medal and a new GB record...

Pretty close to a perfect day for her , eh ? Just like Holly ... respect earned 👍

..and she made the very smart decision to withdraw from the 800... thanks to listening to this forum

Looking at the world top 100 list on World Athletics website, Muir's 3:54.50 places her in 14th all time. But looking at some of those names above her, 6 of those above her are from those ridiculous Chinese middle distance runners from the early and mid 90's. You can safely remove those times from proper consideration due to what we know about them, so then that's Muir up to 8th. Then you have a couple of dodgy USSR athletes, Dvirna and Kazinkina. The latter we know had her career effectively ended by refusing a drug test after a race in 1984 and getting an 18 month ban. So that puts her other achievements prior to that in very dubious light.... also, she was running for the USSR during the 70's and 80's.

If you take them, and former Olympic record holder Paula Ivan, out of the picture, then Muir is in the world's top 5 all time. That's how good a run that was.
