I thought that, but the Jamaicans have two fast finalists in the 400m, and another who ran 50.0 along with Janieve Russell. Still, you'd think they'd (the US) need to really mess up given how fast Mu and McLaughlin are running - both capable of 48.5 splits.

    • They still need to get the baton round safely. Maybe the men's 4x1 will have given them some impetus to put in some last minute practice.

The only people who can consistently balls up a 4x400m are our men...

Pathetic comment. Big difference between a 12500p permanent seater and your ridiculous remark about 50000. A world championship deserves at least a decent amount. of seats In any event your remark about a 50000 seater would never get filled How the fuck do you know that. The Coliseum will certainly manage it in 28 fixed
Have you joined the mystery crew.. every time philipo writes anything we attack and of course disagree. 😒😒😒As if I care!!
I will rise above your obnoxious tone.

What would be the point in the Yanks building a 50000 capacity stadium if, outside of one week of the World Championships, it never gets remotely close to being filled? Eugene may be the one city in the US where the sport is prominent but it only has a population of 168,000 which is about the size of Reading.

That's a dangerous sensible commment. Are you sure you belong here?

Personally, I think all future competitions should be held in a cavernous dome like Doha, where they have 45,000 permanent seats but 35,000 of them are empty. Because, you see, it is the permanency of the seats that is important.

Having events at places where they use temporary seating like Hayward is for fools. Fools like Birmingham next year. Or the Gold Coast in 2018. Or at London Stadium. And let's not forget half the test cricket grounds in the UK. Fools, the lot of them.

          • The Men's 50km RW has just started on Eurosport 1 and (with a VPN) CBC Canada. Martin Gillingham and Mara Yamauchi on comms on ES. I like Mara - she's not a RW expert but she clearly does her homework and is enthusiastic.

            • I'd rather have a small stadium in a town where athletics is loved than a big stadium that will struggle to be filled.

Or one that's easy for outside fans to get to - I think that was part of the problem with Doha.

Butchart Top 6?? ?? I suppose miracles happen.

McColgan Top 6. In the 10k ??? Yes if the East Africans go to sleep. There are a few others as fast as Eilish
Didn’t Knight run the fastest split at the World relays earlier this year? I think on fresh legs she has the chance of running faster than a tiring Clark. But probably unlikely she will be dropped in for an Olympic final.

I assumed the team management were looking to put as many fresh legs in as possible for the final so I’m sure that Pipi and Williams will go in. Nielsen was unconvincing and a 50.9 leg on third when she was the freshest one there was not as good as I was hoping.

Nielsen really seems off this year and I’m not sure why. After she missed the individual I thought she’d shine in the relay

Maybe not a good training experience during Covid restrictions?
